At various time points following addition of labeled DMEM, metabolites were harvested as previously described.20 (link) After drying the samples, the metabolites extracted from the infected plates were dissolved in 600 µL of HPLC-grade water, while metabolites from mock-treated plates were dissolved in 300 µL. This 2-fold difference in volume accounts for the ~2-fold increase in volume of the fibroblasts during human cytomegalovirus infection. Volumes of 10 µL of each metabolite extract were analyzed via reversephase ion-pairing chromatography coupled to a stand-alone orbitrap mass spectrometer. The mass spectrometer scan rate was set to 1 Hz and resolving power to 100 000, scanning m/z 85–1000 in the negative ion mode. All other parameters are as in Lu et al.21 (link) The LC gradient was 0 min, 0% B; 2.5 min, 0% B; 5 min, 20% B; 7.5 min, 20% B; 13 min, 55% B; 15.5 min, 95% B; 18.5 min, 95% B; 19 min, 0% B; 25 min, 0% B. Solvent A is 97:3 water–methanol with 10 mM tributylamine and 15 mM acetic acid; solvent B is methanol. The flow rate was 200 µL/min on a Synergy Hydro-RP column (100 mm × 2 mm, 2.5 µm particle size, Phenomenex, Torrance, CA).

Our goal was to use ratings of surprised faces to calculate each individual’s bias score. We used the facial expressions of clear valence (angry and happy) to first determine that participants could accurately rate the valence of these expressions. Recall that the 17-ms duration condition was selected as a comparison condition that participants would not be able to reliably identify (Ogawa & Suzuki, 1999 (link)). Consistent with this assertion, explicit behavioral responses for faces with a clear valence (i.e., angry, happy) in the 17-ms condition were not significantly different from chance, angry: t(29) = 1.93, p > .05, dz = .35 (M = 43.8%, SD = 18.6%); happy: t(29) = 1.00, p > .3, dz = .18 (M = 45.9%, SD = 18.0%). Conversely, ratings for the 50- and 1,000-ms presentation durations were accurate (i.e., different from chance) angry at 50 ms: t(29) = 21.19, p < .001, dz = 3.87 (M = 89.1%, SD = 9.6%); angry at 1,000 ms: t(29) = 44.06, p < .001, dz = 8.04 (M = 95.9%, SD = 5.5%); happy at 50 ms: t(29) = 20.61, p < .001, dz = 3.76 (M = 10.5%, SD = 10.1%); happy at 1,000 ms: t(29) = 41.69, p < .001, dz = 7.61 (M = 4.2%, SD = 5.8%). Because participants could not discriminate the clearly valenced expressions at 17 ms, we based calculation of participants’ bias scores for ratings of surprised faces on 50- and 1,000-ms presentations only. That said, once we determined each participants’ bias score we included all stimulus durations in the EMG analysis. This is consistent with our theoretical framework outlined in the Introduction suggesting that EMG responses are spontaneous and automatic in that they do not differ based on stimulus duration, even very short stimulus durations that produce differences in subjective report (i.e., 30 ms; Dimberg et al., 2000 (link)). Note that, inclusion of the 17-ms condition here is done within an omnibus analysis that will detect any main effects of duration and/or Duration × Expression interaction if this condition should turn out to systematically differ in the present study (see Results).

Four primary impact sites, designated as A, B, C, and D (Fig. 2), were identified by Pellman et al.37 (link) as points of contact that most frequently result in concussion for NFL athletes. In that study, the average impact velocity for impacts associated with and without concussion was determined to be 9.3 ± 1.9 m/s and 7.0 ± 2.6 m/s, respectively. For this study, each site was impacted at four target speeds: 4.4, 7.4, 9.3, and 11.2 m/s. The highest three velocities correspond to the average speed, ±1 standard deviation, of video-reconstructed impacts sustained before diagnosis of concussion in NFL players.38 (link) 4.4 m/s represents the average velocity, −1 standard deviation, of all sub-concussive impacts evaluated by the NFL. This lower impact velocity was selected to insure inclusion of conditions that may not result in injury, but occur most often in the field.20 (link),24 (link),30 (link) Between three and five trials were conducted for each site and speed combination (Table 1).

The study participants were 70 educational administrative staff in Enugu State primary school board who met the criteria for selection based on the instruments used. They were randomized into treatment (35 participants) and control groups (35 participants). The participants are married with children. The participants years of administrative experience range from 2 to 30 years. The inclusive conditions for participants were those found displaying role conflict as measured by the W-FCQ; time management, poor self-management, and poor technology perception as measured by OSI. The participants were also required to sign a consent form and be actual administrative officers in a school in order to participate in the study. Administrative officers with chronic health conditions, those who have less than 2 years of active duty, and those who are on any type of leave were all explicitly listed as exclusion criteria. Also, exclusion was given to those who travel on official assignments for the organization, those that never respond positively to the consent form, and those who claimed that they are not going to benefit from the research.
The sample size was done by using GPower 3.1 program developed by Faul et al[30 (link)] The researchers ascertain the demographic characteristics of the participants including: years of experience, educational qualifications, and gender. See Table 1 for detailed information about the participants. They were selected from all the primary school board across Enugu state. In our first visitation to the school we only seek permission for us to conduct the research in September 2019 to January 2020, before the outbreak of Covid 19 in Nigeria. We evaluated the administrative staff for eligibility.

Fifty-two sport students (24 male, 28 female; M = 23.77 years of age; SD = 3.1) took part in the experiment. Participants reported normal or corrected to normal vision. At the time of data collection, participants were regularly active in a team sport with a training frequency of at least three times a week and regularly participated in competitions of their sports (e.g., league games, tournaments). Primary sports included soccer (n = 16), handball (n = 16), (beach-)volleyball (n = 11), field hockey (n = 5), and basketball (n = 4). Further conditions for inclusion in the study were that participants had not yet gained any experience with the wingwave® method. Sample size requirements were calculated using G*Power 3.1 (Faul et al., 2009 (link)), indicating that a sample size of 25 participants per group in a repeated-measures design would result in sufficient power (0.80) to detect significant differences (α-level = 0.05, f = 0.2). The study was carried out in accordance with the Helsinki Declaration of 1975 and its later revisions. Written informed consent was obtained from each athlete and there was no compensation for participation. The study was approved from the lead institution’s ethics board.

Categorical variables were described as proportions and percentages. Continuous variables were described as mean and standard deviations. Categorical variables were compared using Chi-squared test and continuous variables using independent Student’s t-test. Multivariate logistic regression model was used to calculate the adjusted odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for in-hospital mortality and severity of IBD. Linear regression models were constructed to estimate the effect of CMV infection on length of hospital stay and total charges of IBD-related hospitalization. Multivariate models were adjusted for all the factors associated with CMV infection at a P value < 0.2 on the univariate analysis. Least square regression analysis was used for trend analysis of CMV infection over the years. SPSS 26 was used for statistical analysis.

The NCCUs of tertiary hospitals employed with full-time doctors were included in the survey. The survey was a cross-sectional survey. The investigation process and steps included three stages: filling out the questionnaire, data collection and sorting, data verification and confirmation, and statistical analysis. First stage (October 1 to December 31, 2020): the NCC-SWG sent the self-report questionnaire to the regional principals (NCC members) by e-mail, and each member sent the questionnaire to the NCCU of the hospital in the region according to the survey inclusion conditions. The person in charge of the NCCU to be surveyed completed the questionnaire. Second stage (from January 1 to March 31, 2021): the person in charge of the NCCU in each region submitted a questionnaire to the NCC members. After each member received and completed the questionnaire, the questionnaire was submitted to the NCC-SWG by email. Third stage (from April 1 to June 30, 2021): the NCC-SWG first collated and verified the questionnaire (verified the query information or data by telephone or e-mail) and then performed statistical analysis on the survey results (Figure 1).
