Western blotting (WB) was performed as previously described [23 (link)]. Equal loading of proteins was confirmed using α-tubulin [23 (link)] or β-actin (0.4 µg/mL, A5441, Sigma-Aldrich, Paisley, UK). For the detection of CD133, protein extracts were heated at 95 °C for 5 min before cooling on ice and WB (CD133, 1 µg/mL, W6B3C1, Miltenyi Biotech, Surrey, UK). After incubation with primary antibodies (MRP1 [23 (link)] or ABCG1 (1:1000, ab36969; Abcam Plc., Cambridge, UK)) and secondary antibodies [23 (link)], proteins were visualised by image capture (at different exposure times depending on the intensity of signal) and quantified using the Li-cor Odyssey infrared imaging system (Li-cor Biosciences, Lincoln, NE, USA).
