Specimens obtained after electrochemical isolation in the final step (Figure 7A) were hydrolyzed in 6 M HCl for 24 h at 50 °C. Following the HCl hydrolysis, the samples were filtrated with 0.4 µm filter and freeze-dried in order to remove excess HCl. The remaining solid was dissolved in water for ESI-MS analysis. As standard, d-glucosamine was purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (Taufkirchen, Germany). The ESI-MS analytical measurements were performed using Agilent Technologies 6230 TOF LC/MS spectrometer (Applied Biosystems, Santa Clara, CA, USA). Nitrogen was used as the nebulizing and desolvation gas. Graphs were generated using Origin 8.5 for PC (Originlab Corporation, Northampton, MA, USA).
