The following taste solutions were used in this study: acetic acid (AA), citric acid (CA), HCl, NaCl (with or without amiloride), KCl, sucrose [with quinine-HCl (QHCl)], QHCl, NH₄Cl (all purchased from Fujifilm Wako Pure Chemical Corporation) and monopotassium glutamate (MPG; Sigma-Aldrich). All taste solutions were dissolved in distilled water (DW; Yoshida et al., 2010 (link)). The following antiarrhythmic drugs were used: amiodarone (A2530, Tokyo Chemical Industry), flecainide (F6777, Sigma-Aldrich) and propafenone (P2301, Tokyo Chemical Industry). All drugs were dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide (Fujifilm Wako Pure Chemical Corporation). For the behavioral and neural experiments, a stock solution of flecainide was diluted in vehicle (5% glucose) to its final concentration just before administration by intraperitoneal injection. The dose of flecainide administered was determined with reference to the dose for humans stated in the prescribing information.
