STI tests and HIV polymerase chain reaction were conducted for quality assurance at the University of Nairobi Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases laboratory. Gen-Probe confirmatory gonorrhea testing of positive results was performed at the Mombasa STI Laboratory.
