Leaching Toxic Metals from Face Masks

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Leaching of toxic metals from face mask samples was conducted as per EPA Method 1311 (Usepa, 1995 ). Briefly, a mixture comprising diluted nitric acid (HNO3) (ratio of water: HNO3 = 9:1 (v/v) (pH 4), sodium hydroxide (NaOH) (pH 10), and deionized water were added to the Erlenmeyer flasks containing the face masks and made up to a final volume of 250 mL. The pH of the mixture was adjusted using a pH meter pH 700 of Eutech Instruments (United Kingdom). The samples were magnetically stirred at room temperature for one day before the leachate was collected.
Another sample was prepared by replacing the face mask with only the nose metal wire. The metal wires were extracted from the face masks using scissors and cutters. Then, a diluted HNO3 (0.1 N) and NaOH were prepared in a 50 mL volumetric flask for the leaching solution. Then, leaching solutions at pH 4 and pH 10 were prepared by the dropwise addition of 0.1 N diluted HNO3 and NaOH into the deionized water (DW; 450 mL), and the pH was adjusted using a pH meter. An aliquot of each leaching solution (20 mL) and the sample was transferred into 100 mL Erlenmeyer flasks containing acidic (pH 4.0), neutral (pH 7.0) and alkaline (pH 10) solutions, respectively. The samples were left to magnetically stir at room temperature for one day.

Comprehensive Clinical Chemistry Analysis

Concentrations of sodium, potassium and chloride were measured potentiometrically using an ion-selective electrode on the Atellica CH Analyzer (Siemens Healthineers). Determinations of magnesium (xylidyl blue method), phosphate (ammonium molybdate method), calcium (o-cresol phthalein complexone method), glucose (hexokinase method), total protein (pyrogallol red method), albumin (bromocresol green method) were performed photometrically on the Atellica CH Analyzer (Siemens Healthineers). Immunoturbidimetric methods were used in the measurements of Lp(a), Apo A1, and Apo B on the Atellica CH Analyzer (Siemens Healthineers). Immunonephelometric concentration determinations of IgG, IgA, IgM, the IgG subclasses, α1-antitrypsin, α2-macroglobulin and transferrin were performed on the BN-II (Siemens Healthineers). Measurements of IgE-activity and concentrations of CA 125, CA 15 − 3, CA 19 − 9, and CA 72 − 4 were performed via chemiluminescent sandwich immunoassays on the Atellica IM (Siemens Healthineers). Ammonia concentrations were determined on Dimension XPand Plus (Siemens Healthineers) by enzymatic method using glutamate dehydrogenase. Measurements of pH values were performed on the pH meter pH700 (Eutech Instruments). Controls of the instruments were performed according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Parameters are accredited according DIN EN ISO 15189:2014.

Synthesis of Anti-Alzheimer's Drug Complexes

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
The complexes were prepared using the co-precipitation method.27 (link) 0.1 g of the anti-Alzheimer's drugs (tacrine and PC-37) was dissolved in 10 mL double distilled water. AIL (0.1 mM) in 10 mL water was slowly added to the drug solution with continuous stirring. The molar ratio of AIL to anti-Alzheimer's drugs was 1 : 1. The vessel was covered with aluminum foil and stirred continuously for 48 h at 305 K before being refrigerating at 278 K. The precipitated compound was recovered by filtration and washed with a small amount of water to remove unfused particles. Double distilled water was used to prepare all the solutions. pH measurements were recorded using a pH meter (pH 700 EUTECH Instruments).

Measuring pH of Minced Thigh Meat

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Thigh meat samples were minced using a mincing machine (TS-JR12A, Teng Sheng Food Machinery Co., Ltd., Guangdong, China). One gram of minced meat was measured using an analytical balance (Model -321 LX, Shanghai, China). Meat samples were transferred into Falcon tubes (Biologix- model; 10-9152, Ying Xiu Road High-Tech Industrial Development Zone Jinan, Shandong, China). Subsequently, 9 mL distilled water added to the Falcon tubes and mixed well with the meat samples. The meat samples were homogenized using a vortex mixer (XINFU-SK-1, Hebei City Thermal meter instrument factory, Henan, China). The homogenized samples were filtered using Whatman No. 4 filter papers (Whatman International Ltd., Maidstone, UK). Finally, the pH of the filtrate was measured using a pH meter (pH 700, Eutech Instruments, Singapore).

Evaluating pH Stability of Encapsulated Materials

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Powders were mixed as previously mentioned and the paste was condensed in a silicon mould to generate 6 capsules of each material with dimensions of 2 mm height and 5 mm diameter. Capsules were then placed in incubator in 99% humidity for 24 hours. After that, every 2 capsules were transferred in 15 ml centrifuge tube and submerged in filtered water of average pH 6.8. Three tubes were prepared for each material, in addition to one control tube containing only water without capsules. Tubes were stored in incubator at 37°C and pH was tested using pH meter (pH 700, Eutech instruments, Germany) at 0, 1, 7, 14, 28, 60 and 90 day intervals (21 ). Before measuring, the pH meter electrode was calibrated using standardized solutions of pH 4, 7 and 10. At the time of measuring, the readings were recorded, then the water was changed by fresh one and pH was measured again. In between readings, the electrode was flushed with distilled water and dried to avoid solutions contamination. Tubes were then sealed and returned to the incubator till the next reading day.

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
