Metabolomic Analysis of Traditional Chinese Herbs

Lignin Purification and Characterization

The lignin was washed with aqueous 2 M hydrochloride acid and filtered in a sand core filter funnel, and then repeatedly washed with excess water until neutral. The filtered lignin was dried overnight in a vacuum oven at 40 °C and stored in a tightly sealed container. Synthesis of Borated Phenolic Foam

Male ICR mice (SPF, 18–22 g) were obtained from Animal Center of Anhui Medical University (Hefei, China).

Ruthenium-Catalyzed RAFT Polymerization

The characterization result of RAFT agent is detailed in the ESI (Fig. S3). 4-Vinyl pyridine (Sinopharm, 97%) was purified by distillation under reduced pressure over CaH2. Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO, Sinopharm, AR) and dimethylformamide (DMF, Sinopharm, AR) were first dried with anhydrous magnesium sulfate and then distilled under reduced pressure prior to use. Methanol (MeOH, Sinopharm, AR) and pyridine (Sinopharm, AR) were distilled over CaH2 just prior to use.
