Oasis HLB cartridges (500 mg, 6 mL) from Waters (Eschborn, Germany) were used for solid-phase extraction (SPE). Nylon syringe filters (0.45 µm, 25 mm, PURELAND) were used to filter the sample. Plant material samples (parsley root) were purchased from stores in the Silesian Voivodship (administrative unit) in Poland. Soil samples were collected in Gliwice, Poland.

Planting and Characterization of Isatis Species

Information regarding the source of the seeds (14 species) is shown in Table S2. Leaves of these 14 species were harvested four months after planting. All voucher specimens were deposited in the Institute of Chinese Materia Medica, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SHUTCM, Shanghai, China). An analytical standard (2 mg L -1 ) containing 24 PFAS with carbon chain lengths of C4-C13 perfluroalkylcarboxylic acids, C4-C10 perfluroalkylsulfonates, FOSA, N-MeFOSAA, N-EtFOSAA perflurooctanesulfon-(amide & amidoacetic acids) as well as 4:2, 6:2 and 8:2 fluorinated telomer acids was purchased from Wellington Laboratories (Guelph, Ontario, Canada). Sodium hydroxide, sodium chloride, ammonium hydroxide were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (Castle Hill, Australia) and glacial acetic acid from Chem-Supply (Gillman, Australia).
