Silica gel, glass-encased solid phase extraction cartridges (500 mg/6 ml) were purchased from Sorbent Technology (Atlanta, GA, USA). A glucometer was purchased from Bayer HealthCare LLC (Pittsburgh, PA, USA). Serum adiponectin levels were measured by Mouse Adiponectin/Acrp30 Immunoassay (R&D Systems, Minneapolis, MN, USA). All assays were performed according to the manufacturers’ protocols. Prolab RMH 2000 diet, Custom made-fish oil mouse diet and control diet were purchased from Lab Supply, TX, USA and Labdiet, MO, USA respectively. Fish oil (1,560 mg of PUFA/5mL) for Nile rat supplementation was purchased from Nordic Naturals, Inc. (Watsonville,CA, USA).
