To assess the liver damage, liver enzyme, aspartate transaminase (AST) was measured by spectrophotometric method at 340 nm in sera collected at 16 h post-treatment. To this end, we used AST assay kit from Pointe Scientific (Canton, MI, United States) as described previously (Hegde et al., 2011 (link); Busbee et al., 2015 (link)).

Blood was collected from the four groups of mice at 8 h after SEB injection, and serum were separated and stored at −20℃. Levels of AST and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) were measured by spectrophotometric method at 340 nm in the serum using AST assay kit and ALT assay kit from Pointe Scientific (Canton, MI, USA) according to the protocol.
