Lentil-Based Catalytic Synthesis

Antimicrobial Peptide-Functionalized Chitosan Hydrogel

Chitosan, maleic anhydride,
ceric ammonium nitrate, acetone, triethylamine, glycidylmethacrylate,
tetrabutyl ammonium bromide, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), Dulbecco’s
phosphate-buffered saline (DPBS), iron(II) ions, crystal violet, sulfuric
acid, and HP were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (USA). P (RKKKRLLRKKC)
was designed in our lab and synthesized by ChinaPeptides Co., Ltd.
(China). MTT was purchased from Merck Chemicals (Germany). Mueller–Hinton
Broth (MHB), nutrient broth (NB), and Mueller–Hinton Agar (MHA)
used for bacterial cultures were purchased from Biolab (South Africa).
MRSA Rosenbach ATCC BAA 1683 was used. Distilled water used in the
study was produced in the laboratory with a Milli-Q water purification
system (Millipore corp., USA). All reagents and solvents used in this
study were of analytical grade.

Cell Viability Assay of Macrophages and Fibroblasts

The cell culture flask, well plates and, Dimethyl sulfoxide solvent (DMSO) were procured from Fisher Scientific. The custom design amine with and without fluoroprobe tagged miR146a was purchased from Integrated DNA Technologies IDT. Marine-derived macrophages (RAW 264.7 cells, ATCC® TIB-71™), murine dermal fibroblasts (MDF), human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC), and their growth medium were purchased from ATTC (American Type Culture Collection, Manassas, VA, USA). The fetal bovine serum (FBS), endothelial cell supplement growth kit, 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT assay) powder and, live/dead assay were procured from Invitrogen.

Photocatalytic Polymer Surface Modification
