Lithium chloride (molecular biology grade, L9650) and bovine serum albumin (BSA, ≥ 99%) were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO) and methanesulfonic acid (MSA, 98+%) was purchased from Alfa Aesar (Haverhill, MA). Sodium chloride (USP-grade) and potassium hydroxide (USP-grade) were obtained from BDH through VWR International (Radnor, PA) and calcium hydroxide (98%, extra pure), D,L-lactic acid (85%), and glycerol (Reagent ACS, 99.6%) were obtained from Acros Organics through Thermo Fisher Scientific (Waltham, MA). D-Glucose, monohydrate (biotechnology grade) was obtained from Amresco (Solon, OH) and acetic acid (Certified ACS), urea (reagent grade), and phosphate-buffered saline (PBS, 10× solution, DNase-, RNase-, and protease-free) were purchased from Thermo Fisher Scientific. High purity water (HPW, > 18 MΩ-cm) was obtained from a Milli-Q UF Plus ultrapure water system (EMB Millipore, Billerica, MA). Vaginal fluid simulant (VFS) was prepared according to the recipe by Owen and Katz [36 (link)].

Calcium Hydroxide-Based Organic Waste Extraction

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)₂, 95%) was purchased from Thermo Scientific. Hydrochloric acid (HCl, p.a. ≥37%), ammonia solution (NH₃, p.a. 28%–30%), and nitric acid (HNO₃, p.a. 65%) were purchased from Merck. Phosphoric acid (H₃PO₄; 85%) was purchased from CARLO ERBA. NaHCO₃ was purchased from Fluka. All commercial reagents were used as received without any further purification. The basic extract of the solid digestate containing 7 wt% of HAs and FAs was obtained by a pilot implant treating urban organic wastes (ACEA Pinerolese SpA, Pinerolo (TO), Italy). Rice husks were provided by a local farm (Azienda Agricola Risicola Allocco, Bra (CN), Italy).

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Barium titanate (IV) (BaTiO3, 99.5%, particle size ≤2 µm) and colloidal silica were procured from Sigma–Aldrich (Saint Louis, MO, USA) and used without further modification. The detailed information of colloidal silica is presented in Table 1. Calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2, >95%), magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)2, 95%), sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3, >99.7%) and magnesium oxide (MgO, 98%) from Fischer Scientific (Fair Lawn, NJ, USA) and sodium tetraborate decahydrate as known as borax decahydrate (Na2B4O7·10H2O, >99.5%) from Alfa Aesar (Ward Hill, MA, USA) were used for the preparation of the cement samples.

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
