Serum cytokine/chemokine concentrations were measured with the V-PLEX Human Biomarker Assay kit (Meso Scale Diagnostics, Maryland, US) according to manufacturer’s recommendations. This allowed for the concurrent measurement of 47 cytokines and chemokines (Supplementary Table 2).
