Characterizing Glucose Metabolism in Mice

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
The wt and ob/ob mice were weighed, and peripheral blood was collected for measurements of blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c). Blood was collected in sterile EDTA-treated tubes (#367838, BD Vacutainer; BD, Franklin Lakes, NJ) and stored at 4 °C. Blood glucose levels were measured using an Accu-Chek Performa blood glucose meter (Roche Diabetes Care, Sydney, Australia). HbA1c was measured using a Mouse Hemoglobin A1c Kit (#80310; Crystal Chem, Elk Grove Village, IL) according to the manufacturer’s instructions. HbA1c levels were read on a POLARstar Omega Spectrophotometer (BMG LABTECH, Ortenberg, Germany). Samples were averaged with n=8 per biological group, and statistical significance (p<0.05) was measured using a Student t test.

Glycemic Index Measurement in Mice

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Three days before euthanasia, the mice were fasted for 12 h for the GI in vivo test. After a 12 h fasting period, a chow diet and bread sample for all four groups were fed to the mice, and then the tail tip of the mice was cut off. Five blood samples in each group were collected at 0, 30, 60, 90, and 120 min. All collected blood samples were used to determine the glucose levels in the samples with an Accu-Chek Performa blood glucose meter (Roche Diabetes Care, Switzerland). The GI was determined using the area under the curve (AUC) calculation method (Chlup et al., 2008 (link)).

Blood Glucose Monitoring Protocol

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
The finger-tip blood sample Accu-Chek Performa Blood Glucose meter (Roche Diabetes Care, Inc. Switzerland) was used for assessing blood glucose levels. The reference range was a random plasma glucose ≥ 200 mg/dl (at any time of the day regardless of last meal time). Nurses were assigned to do the needle prick using disposable needles, while students were assigned to record the reading [23 (link)].

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
