Evaluation of Antioxidant and Antidiabetic Potential

Hank’s Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS), penicillin and streptomycin, fetal bovine serum (FBS), glutamate, trypsin-EDTA, non-essential amino acids (NEAA), Dulbecco’s modified eagle medium (DMEM), Dulbecco’s phosphate-buffered saline without calcium and magnesium (PBS), trypan blue exclusion dye, and CyQUANT® NF Cell Proliferation Assay reagent (Molecular Probes™) were purchased from Invitrogen (Thermo Fisher Scientific Corporation, Waltham, MA, USA).

Feijoa Fruit Preparation and Analysis

Ready-to-eat fresh feijoa fruits (approximately 5 kg; Supplementary Figure S1) were harvested randomly in Victoria (Australia) and provided by Produce Art Ltd. (Rocklea, QLD, Australia). Cultures of Staphylococcus aureus strain 6571 and Escherichia coli strain 9001 were obtained from the National Collection of Type Cultures (NCTC, Health Protection Agency Centre for Infection, London, UK), and Candida albicans (strain 90028) was sourced from the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC, In Vitro Technologies Pty Ltd., Noble Park, VIC, Australia).
