All chemicals were analytical reagent (AR) grade. Citrate-capped AuNPs with an average diameter of 10 nm, citrate-capped AgNPs with an average diameter of 10 nm, thymine, Tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane powder, i.e., tris buffer, cadmium chloride hemipentahydrate (CdCl₂·2.5H₂O) and magnesium chloride hexahydrate (MgCl₂·6H₂O) were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO, USA). Calcium chloride anhydrous (CaCl₂), copper (II) sulphate pentahydrate (CuSO₄·5H₂O), iron (III) chloride hexahydrate (FeCl₃·6H₂O), manganese chloride tetrahydrate (MnCl₂·4H₂O), lead (II) chloride (PbCl₂), and zinc chloride (ZnCl₂) were purchased from Bio Basic (Markham, ON, Canada). Aluminum chloride hexahydrate (AlCl₃·6H₂O) and mercuric (II) nitrate monohydrate [Hg(NO₃)₂·H₂O] were purchased from Loba Chemie (Mumbai, India). Cobalt (II) chloride hexahydrate (CoCl₂·6H₂O) and nickel (II) sulphate hexahydrate (NiSO₄·6H₂O) were purchased from Fisher Scientific (Leics, UK). Aqueous solutions were prepared in ultrapure water obtained from Millipore Milli-Q water purification system (Burlington, MA, USA, 18.2 MΩ∙cm). All metal ion stock solutions were prepared in 0.1 M of tris buffer at pH 7.

Titanium (IV) isopropoxide (Ti(OiPr)₄) and 2-amino terephthalic acid (H₂NC₆H₃-1,4-(CO₂H)₂) were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich Co. (St. Louis, MO, USA). Iron(III) chloride hexahydrate (FeCl₃·6H ₂O), nickel chloride hexahydrate (NiCl₂·6H₂O), and cobalt(II) chloride hexahydrate (CoCl₂·6H₂O) were obtained from Fisher Scientific (Fair Long, NJ, USA). N-dimethylformamide (DMF, 99.5%) and methanol (CH₃OH) were bought from Xilong Chemical Co., Ltd. (Guangdong, China).
