Elav-GeneSwitch (ElavGS) was obtained from Dr. Chun-Hong Chen, National Health Research Institutes. In most cases, flies were reared at 25 °C. For the Gal4/UAS-shits experiments, flies were reared at 23 °C until 1 h before the VBFD assay (32 °C). To express UAS-41Q-HA in adult flies via the TARGET system17 , animals were allowed to develop at 18 °C and transferred to 29 °C right after eclosion.
