Theophylline (TP) was obtained from Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MI, USA). Poly(aspartic acid) (ASPA, MW: 133.10, purity = 99 plus%) was purchased from ACROS, NJ, USA. Moreover, 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (AMPS) (purity = 98%) and N,N′-methylene bisacrylamide (MBA, purity = 97%) were procured from Alfa Aesar (Lancashire, UK).
