The following compounds were purchased commercially from the sources indicated: allopurinol, benzbromarone, cyclosporine, D-fructose, elacridar, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide, nicotinic acid, oxypurinol, rosuvastatin calcium salt, salicylic acid, 4-hydroxy chalcone (Wako Fine Chemical, Osaka, Japan); atorvastatin, chlorothiazide, febuxostat, mizoribine, pyrazinecarboxylic acid, ribavirin, tacrolimus, xylitol (Tokyo Chemical Industry, Tokyo, Japan); ethambutol, losartan (LKT Laboratories, St Paul, MN, USA); fenofibrate, probenecid, sulfasalazine, Ko143, ATP, AMP, creatine phosphate disodium salt tetrahydrate, creatine phosphokinase type I from rabbit muscle (Sigma-Aldrich, St. Louis, MO, USA); pyrazinamide (ACROS ORGANICS, Geel, Belgium); theophylline (Nacalai Tesque, Kyoto, Japan); and topiroxostat (MedChem Express, Princeton, NJ, USA). The [8-14C]-uric acid (53 mCi/mmol) was from American Radiolabeled Chemicals (St. Louis, MO, USA). All other chemicals used were commercially available and of analytical grade.

Four-Week Antibiotic Regimen for Tuberculosis

Four weeks after infection, an antibiotic regimen of Rifampicin (R; Chem Impex International, Wood Dale, IL), Isoniazid (H), and Pyrazinamide (Z; both Acros Organics, subsidiary of Thermo Fisher, Waltham, MA, United States) was initiated in the drinking water for 8 weeks. Doses were 100 mg/L (R), 250 mg/L (H), and 150 mg/L (Z).

Pyrazinamide Polymorphs Crystallization

Pyrazinamide (≥97.5%)
was purchased from Acros Organics and Sigma-Aldrich, and 1,3-dimethylurea
(DMU) (≥95%) was purchased from Alfa Aesar, and used without
further purification. DMU was stored under low relative humidity conditions,
to avoid water uptake. Single crystals of the room temperature forms
of PZA were grown by solvent evaporation. The δ form (block-shape)
was grown from a 7 mg/mL PZA in acetone solution at 277 K, and the
α form (needle-shape) was grown from a 11 mg/mL PZA aqueous
solution at 277 K, or a 13 mg/mL PZA aqueous solution at 293 K. The
polymorphic form was checked using PXRD.

Synthesis of Gold Nanoparticles

BSA was purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (A7906-10g). Hydrogen tetrachloroaurate(III) trihydrate (HAuCl4) and isonicotinic acid hydrazide were obtained from Alfa Aesar. Rifampicin was purchased from Sigma Aldrich (R3501-1g), pyrazinamide was obtained from Acros Organics, and ethambutol dihydrochloride was obtained from LKT Laboratories, Inc. Sodium hydroxide was obtained from Riedel–de Haen. All of the solvents and chemicals were used without further purification. Aqueous solutions were prepared using deionized water (DI) with a resistivity of 18.20 MΩ cm.
