Analytical Standards for Bioactive Compounds

We purchased standards for quercetin (purity=98.0%) and vanillic acid (purity=98.0%) from Shanghai Shidande Standard Technical Service Co., Ltd. (Shanghai, China). HPLC-grade methanol (purity≥99.9%) was purchased from Fisher Chemical (Waltham, USA). All water used in this research was double distilled. Other reagents and chemicals were all analytical grade. MgCl2·6H2O (purity≥98.0%), KCl (purity≥99.5%), NaCl (purity≥99.5%), CaCl2 (purity≥96.0%), D-Glucose ([α]20D: +52.5° - +53.0°), NaHCO3 (purity≥99.5%), NaH2PO4 (purity≥99.0%), concentrated hydrochloric acid (ω%36.0–38.0%), and acetic acid (purity≥99.5%) were supplied by Beijing Chemical Works (Beijing, China). Ethyl carbamate (trade name: urethane) was purchased from Tianjin Guangfu Fine Chemical Research Institute (Tianjin, China). Finally, 0.9% sodium chloride injection solution was obtained from Shijiazhuang Pharmaceutical Siyao Co., Ltd. (Shijiazhuang, China).

Mycotoxin Detection Using Aptamers

Mycotoxin standards including AFB1, AFM1, OTA, ZEN, FB1, and DON were purchased from Pribolab (Singapore, Singapore). A total of seven oligonucleotide sequences against AFB1 and each corresponding complementary ssDNA were synthesized and purified through HPLC by Sangon Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (Shanghai, China), and these aptamers were listed in Table 1 and their corresponding complementary sequences (Seq) was listed in Table S1. The fluorescent dye PicoGreen was purchased from Invitrogen (Carlsbad, CA, USA). The areca nuts, lotus seed, malt, Radix Paeoniae Alba, and Chinese yam were collected from China, India, Philippines, and Indonesia. Acetonitrile, methanol, Tris-HCl, EDTA-2Na, Na2CO3, NaHCO3, and NaCl was analytical grade and purchased from Beijing Chemical Works (Beijing, China). PestiCarb (GCB 120-400 Mesh), octadecylsilane (C18) and Cleanert primary secondary amine (PSA, 40–60 μm) were from Beijing Agela Technologies Inc. Deionized water was purified using a Milli-Q system (Millipore, CA, USA).

Hemoglobin-Based Antioxidant Assay

All the chemicals used were of analysis grade without further purification. Hemoglobin (Hb, from bovine blood) was purchased from Sigma-Aldrich. Thiamine, L-ascorbic acid (Vc) and folic acid (VB9) were obtained from Guoyao Chemical Research Institute (Shenyang, China). NaCl, KCl, NaHCO3, NaHPO4, NaH2PO4, NaHSO4, NaOH, glucose and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2, 30%) were purchased from Beijing Chemical Works (Beijing, China). 1,2-diaminobenzene (OPD) and CuSO4 were purchased from Tianjin Guangfu Fine Chemical Research Institute (Tianjin, China). The water used in the experiments was purified. The ρ of the water was 18 MΩ·cm.

R. grade) were brought from China National Medicines Co., Ltd. 1,4-Naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (H2NDC, 99% purity), 2-naphthalenemethanol (98% purity), 1-phenylethanol (97% purity), 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethanol (95% purity), and furfuryl alcohol (98% purity) were purchased from J&K Scientific Co., Ltd. Benzyl alcohol was supplied by Alfa Aesar China Co., Ltd. All these materials were used directly without further purification.
