Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) plates (250 μm thickness, 2−25 μm particle size) were purchased from Macherey–Nagel (Macherey-Nagel, Düren, Germany). Sepabeads resin styrenic adsorbent (130 Å porosity) was obtained from Sorbtech (Peachtree Corners, GA, USA). LC-MS grade acetonitrile, water, and formic acid, and ACS-grade n-hexane, ethyl acetate, acetone, chloroform, and methanol were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich. Moringa seeds collected in West Bengal, India, were purchased from Amazon (Bellevue, WA, USA) in May 2019.

Synthesis and Characterization of Isothiocyanate Compounds

4-(Trifluorophenyl) isothiocyanate, 4-fluorophenyl isothiocyanete, 4-(methoxyphenyl) isothiocyanate, 2,4-dichlorophenyl isothiocyanate, 2,6-dimethyl isothiocyanate, p-tolyl isothiocyanate and cyclohexyl isothiocyanate were purchased from Sigma Aldrich and Merck. The solvents were dried and distilled according to the standard procedures.
Infrared spectra were recorded on a Perkin-Elmer FT-IR System Spectra BX over the range 4000-500 cm -1 . All NMR measurements were carried out on a Varian 600 Spectrometer operating at 600 MHz. 13 C-NMR was acquired on an Agilent VNMRS Spectrometer at 125 MHz. The chemical shifts were reported in δ (ppm) with respect to the internal standard TMS. Attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy measurements were recorded using a Perkin-Elmer Spectrum BX FT-IR spectrometer over the range of 4000-500 cm -1 . Melting points (ºC) were measured using the Schmelzpunktbestimmer SMP II melting point apparatus.

Characterization of Indanone Derivatives

Melting points (uncorrected) were determined on a Thomas Hoover apparatus. Thin layer chromatography (TLC) was used to monitor reactions. IR spectra were recorded as KBr pellets using a Perkin Elmer Spectrum One FT-IR spectrophotometer. 1 H and 13 C NMR spectra were recorded on a Bruker 500 MHz spectrometer. High resolution mass spectra were acquired on Bruker micrOTOF-Q II spectrometer. 1-indanone, 5,6-dimethoxy-1indanone, 4-fluorophenyl isothiocyanate, 4-nitrophenyl isothiocyanate, and 4methoxyphenyl isothiocyanate were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich and used as received.
