Anti-17-estradiol antibody and 17β-estradiol were purchased from Abcam (Cambridge, UK). The Alexa fluor 488-conjugated goat anti-rabbit IgG (H + L) cross-adsorbed secondary antibody was purchased from Thermo Fisher Scientific (Massachusetts, USA). Cysteamine hydrochloride (≥99%), bovine serum albumin (BSA, ≥99%), phosphate-buffered saline (PBS, 1X), (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES, 99%), ethanol (EtOH, 99.8%), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE, 99%), perfluoro(n-butyltetrahydrofuran) (FC-40, 99%), and 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyltriethoxysilane (97%) were purchased from Sigma Aldrich. A soda-lime glass substrate was bought from ISOLAB Laborgeräte GmbH. Ag and Au pellets (99.99%) were bought from iTASCO (Taewon Scientific Co., Ltd, Korea). Aqueous solutions were prepared using ultrapure water (Thermo Scientific Easypure II, Göteborg, Sweden) with a resistivity of 18.2 MΩ cm.

Tetrachlorouronic acid (G4022), trisodium citrate (PHR1416), 16-mercaptohexadecanoic acid (MUA) (448303), polyethylene glycol (PEG) (729159), 17β-estradiol (E-2257) n-hydroxysuccinamide (NHS) (130672) and 1-ethyl-3- (3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide (EDC) (E6383) were of analytical purity and purchased from Sigma Aldrich. Plasma Biomarker Analysis of COVID-19

Plasma samples collected at admission were analysed by the following ELISA kits: Free Testosterone (R&D Systems, Minneapolis, MN, USA; Intra-Assay: CV 3.1%, Inter-Assay: CV 6.3%), 17β-estradiol (Abcam, Cambridge, UK; Intra-Assay: CV < 9%, Inter-Assay CV < 10%), sACE2 (Abcam, Intra-Assay: CV 2.3%, Inter-Assay: CV 3.2%) and Ang1-7 (Finetest, Wuhan, Hubei, China; Intra-Assay: CV < 8%, Inter-Assay: CV < 10%). All the ELISA kits were used according to manufactures 'instructions. No significant cross-reactivity or interference between Ang1-7 and analogues or other factors present in biological samples was observed.
