Wild type w1118

Sourced in United States, France

The wild type w1118 is a common fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) strain used in research. It is a widely utilized control strain with a white eye phenotype. The w1118 strain serves as a standard reference point for various genetic and molecular studies conducted with Drosophila.

Flies were raised on standard cornmeal and molasses medium at 25°C. Drosophila melanogaster male 3rd instar larvae of the following strains were used for experiments:
Wildtype: w1118 [Bloomington Drosophila Stock Center (BDSC), Bloomington, IN, United States]. unc-13GFSTF: y[1] w[*]; Mi{PT-GFSTF.0}unc-13[MI00468-GFSTF.0] (stock sent out to BDSC). Original MiMIC-strain (MI00468): y[1] w[*]; Mi{y[+ mDint2] = MIC}unc-13[MI00468]/In(4)ci[D], ci[D] pan[ciD] (BDSC #31015).

Drosophila Model of Parkinson's Disease

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Flies were grown in standard cornmeal/agar media with 0.4% propionic acid on a 12-hour light/dark cycle at 25°C. Fly strains used were: wild type w1118 (from Bloomington Stock Center), TH-Gal4 (a kind gift from Dr S. Birman at ESPCI, France) [18 (link)], UAS-α-Syn (A53T) (A53T, a gift from Dr. L. Pallanck, University of Washington, USA) [19 (link)]. In this study, we used a fly line carrying TH-Gal4 and UAS-α-Syn (A53T) on chromosome 3, designated as A53T. Flies were allowed to lay eggs onto an agar plate for an hour. Each plate had roughly 50 eggs on its surface. The plate was then incubated at 25°C for locomotion assay.

Generating Fmr1 and Centg1 Mutant Mice and Flies

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Mice were generated by crossing female Fmr1HET mice (The Jackson Laboratory) with male Centg1 heterozygous mice (Chan et al., 2010 (link)), and were genotyped by PCR. The animal protocol was approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees of Emory University, UT Southwestern, NYU and CCHMC, and complied with the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. Flies were maintained at 25°C under standard conditions. Wild type Oregon-R, wild type w1118 (for behavioral analyses), dFmr1 (dFmr1Δ50M/TM6B) (Zhang et al., 2001 (link)) and CenG1A (CenG1AEY01217/CyO) alleles were obtained from the Bloomington Drosophila Stock Center. For details, see Supplemental Experimental Procedures.

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
