(Chengdu, China); standards for cis-THSG, epicatechin, epicatechin-3-gallate, emodin-8-O-β-D-glucoside, and physcion-8-O-β-D-glucoside were purchased from Chengdu Xunchen Biological Technology Co., Ltd. (Chengdu, China). HPLC-grade methanol and acetonitrile (E. Merck, Darmstadt, Germany), ammonium acetate (Sigma-Aldrich, St. Louis, MO, USA), HPLC grade formic acid (Tedia, Fairfield, OH, USA) were purchased. Ultra-pure water was prepared by a Mili-Q water purification system (Millipore, Burlington, MA, USA).

Authentication and Characterization of Polygonum multiflorum

(Chengdu, China); epicatechin, epicatechin-gallate, emodin-8-O-β-D-glucoside, physcion-8-O-β-D-glucoside were supplied by Chengdu Xunchen Biological Technology Co., Ltd. (Chengdu, China). Acetonitrile (HPLC grade) and methanol (HPLC grade) were supplied by E. Merck (Darmstadt, Germany); ammounium acetate (Sigma-aldrich, USA) was purchased; formic acid (HPLC grade) was purchased from Tedia (USA); ultra-pure water was prepared by a Mili-Q water purification system (Millipore, MA, USA).

Chrysophanol, rhein and polydatin were obtained from the National Institute for the Control of Pharmaceutical and Biological Products (NICPBP, Beijing, China). emodin-8-O-β-d-glucoside and 2,3,5,4-tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O-β-d-glucoside (THSG) were obtained from Sichuan Victory Bio-Technology Co., Ltd. (Sichuan, China). The purity of all the reference substances was higher than 98%.
