(≥99.0%), anhydrous sodium carbonate
(Na2CO3, 99.999%, Sigma-Aldrich), hydrochloric
acid (HCl, 37%, Sigma-Aldrich), sodium hydroxide (NaOH, ≥98%,
Sigma-Aldrich), and ethanol (p.a., absolute, ACS grade, Merck) were
used as received. 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([Bmim][Cl],
99%, IoLiTec Ionic Liquids Technologies GmbH) was stored under argon
prior to use. SF was obtained by cutting B. mori cocoons (Aurora Silk, Portland, U.S.A.) into ca. 3 × 3 mm2 pieces. These were treated for 45 min in a boiling aqueous
0.02 M Na2CO3 solution. The as-prepared fibers
were washed several times with distilled water and then dried in an
oven at 50 °C.

Extraction and Analysis of Biomolecules Using Ionic Liquids
were of analytical grade. Chloroform and methanol were obtained from
Biosolve. Phosphate saline buffer (PBS) pH 7 was prepared by mixing
0.21 g of KH2PO4, 0.48 g of Na2HPO4·2H2O, and 9.00 g of NaCl in 1 L of distilled
water. NaOH, KH2PO4, Na2HPO4·2H2O, NaCl, and K2HPO4 were purchased
from Merck Millipore. Concentrated phenol, concentrated sulfuric acid,
polyethylene glycol (PEG1000), and Na2CO3 were
obtained from Sigma-Aldrich. The ionic liquids 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium

(97%) [Emim][DBP], 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium dibutyl phosphate (98%)
[Bmim][DBP], 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (98%) [Bmim][Cl],
and choline chloride (98%) [Ch][Cl] were acquired from Iolitec GmbH
(Germany).
Synthesis and Characterization of Ionic Liquids
1-Butyl-3-Methyl Imidazolium Bromide (BMIM Br) was prepared according to the procedure described by Wu et al. 29 . 1-Butyl-3-MethylImidazolium bis(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl imide (BMIM TFSI) was also prepared according to Wu et al. procedure 29 , slightly modified. Briefly, 1.1 eq LiTFSI and 1 eq BMIM Br were mixed in ultra pure water during 16 h at room temperature. The solid obtained was then washed 4 times with ultra pure water and dried by evaporation under vacuum during 24 h at 80 °C.
Density and viscosity of ionic liquids were determined using respectively a DMA 4100 densimeter and a Lovis 2000 viscosimeter, both from Anton Paar®.

About PubCompare
Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.
We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.
However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
