Chloroform solutions of L-α-phosphatidylcholine (PC, from egg), L-α-phosphatidylethanolamine (PE, transphosphatidylated (egg)), were purchased from Avanti Polar Lipids (Alabaster, AL). Cholesterol (Chol) was obtained from Wako Pure Chemicals (Osaka, Japan) and recrystallized three times from methanol prior to use. Astemizole was obtained from Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO).
