Continuous data were presented as mean ± standard deviation (SD), and categorical data were presented as proportions. Comparisons between groups were performed using chi-square tests for categorical variables and Student's t test for continuous variables. Multiple linear/logistic regression models were fit to estimate the associations between LEP and LEPR polymorphisms and CK levels at baseline and after simvastatin treatment. All analyses conducted were stratified by region. The regression coefficients, listed as beta values in our tables, were estimated using the least-squares method and can be interpreted as the mean difference in CK elevation between a genotype group and the reference group. We also examined interactions on the multiplicative scale between the single-nucleotide polymorphisms and the different environmental regions in association with CK elevation. The SAS 8.0 software package (SAS Institute, Cary, NC) and IBM SPSS software package (version 19.0 for windows; IBM Inc. Armonk, NY, USA) were used for statistical analysis. P-values less than 0.05 were considered to be significant.
