Trisodium isocitric acid, isocitric dehydrogenase, β-NADP and its reduced form (β-NADPH), UDP-glucuronic acid (UDPGA), and β-glucuronidase were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO, USA). S-Adenosyl-L-methionine p-toluene sulfonate salt was obtained from Aladdin Reagent (Shanghai, China; purity > 80%). Calcium chloride, epsom salt, dipotassium hydrogen phosphate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, sodium bicarbonate and sodium chloride were supplied by Sinopharm Chemical Reagent (Beijing, China). Tryptone, yeast extract, and cysteine hydrochlorate were obtained from BBI (Canada). All other chemicals were from standard commercial sources and were of the highest quality.

BZH was purchased from China Langchem Inc. (Shanghai, China). Pullulan (M.W. 200,000 Daltons) was purchased from Sangon Biotech. (Shanghai, China). Gold nanoparticles (GNPs, 50 nm in diameter, with a concentration of 3.5 × 10¹⁰ particles/mL) were purchased from the Sigma-Aldrich Corporation (St. Louis, MO, USA). Disodium hydrogen phosphate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, sodium acetate, and acetic acid were acquired from Sinopharm Chemical Reagent Co., Ltd. (Shanghai, China). Phosphoric acid was bought from Guangdong Guanghua Chemical Factory Co. Ltd. (Guangzhou, China). Acetonitrile at HPLC grade was obtained from Spectrum Chemical Mfg. Corp. (Gardena, CA, USA).

Ethyl cellulous (EC, ethocel standard 10 premiums, Colorcon Coating Technique Company, Shanghai, China). Hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC grade LF, Hercules Incorporated, Wilmintong, IL, USA). MS Celphere (CP305, Asahi Kasei Chemicals Corporation, Tokyo, Japan). Metoprolol succinate (99.5% purity, Jiashi Lianbo Medical Development, Co., Ltd., Beijing, China). Sodium chloride (NaCl, Sinopharm Chemical Reagent Co., Ltd., Beijing, China). Ethanol (95%, Beijing Zhenyu Minsheng Pharmaceutical, Co., Ltd., Beijing, China) was used for polymer dissolution. Hydrochloric acid, sodiumhydroxide, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, sodium acetate, acetic acid, potassium chloride and potassium nitrate were purchased from Sinopharm Chemical Reagent, Co., Ltd. (Shanghai, China). All reagents were of either analytical or chromatographic grades.

Acetonitrile, methanol, and acetic acid were chromatographically pure and purchased from Tedia, Fairfield, OH, USA; o-phthalaldehyde (OPA), methyl chloroformate (FMOC), gallic acid, 8 catechin monomers, 3 alkaloid monomers, 16 kinds of flavonoids, and 20 kinds of amino acid standards were purchased from Shanghai Yuanye Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (Shanghai, China); and potassium dihydrogen phosphate, disodium hydrogen phosphate, sodium potassium tartrate, ferrous sulfate, and anthrone were analytically pure and purchased from Sinopharm Chemical Reagent Co., Ltd. (Shanghai, China).

(‐)‐Catechin (C), (‐)‐epigallocatechin (EGC), (‐)‐gallocatechin (GC), (‐)‐epicatechin (EC), (‐)‐epicatechin gallate (ECG), (‐)‐epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), (‐)‐gallocatechin gallate (GCG), anhydrous glucose, caffeine (CAF), and gallic acid (GA) were purchased from Shanghai Yuanye Biotechnology Co., Ltd. Company (Shanghai, China). Alanine (ala), arginine (arg), aspartic acid (asp), cysteine (cys), glutamic acid (glu), glycine (gly), histidine (his), isoleucine (ile), leucine (leu), methionine (met), phenylalanine (phe), proline (pro), serine (ser), threonine (thr), tryptophan (trp), tyrosine (tyr), valine (val), theanine, the AccQ‐Fluor Reagent Kit, and AccQ‐Tag eluent were purchased from BDH Chemicals Ltd. (Poole, UK). Acetonitrile (chromatographically pure), sodium carbonate, methanol (chromatographically pure), concentrated sulfuric acid, anthrone, ferrous tartrate (analytically pure), disodium hydrogen phosphate, and potassium dihydrogen phosphate were purchased from Sinopharm Chemical Reagent Co., Ltd. (Shanghai, China). Pure water from China Resources C'estbon Beverage Co., Ltd. (Shenzhen, China) was used throughout the study.

PLGA–PEG–PLGA triblock copolymer, Lot No. 21062206 (theoretical M_w: 2000–1500–2000, Copolymer–1); Lot No. 21113003(theoretical M_w: 1700–1500–1700, Copolymer–2); Lot No. 21090902(theoretical M_w: 1700–1500–1700, Copolymer–3); Lot No. 21120701(theoretical M_w: 1700–1500–1700, Copolymer–4) were obtained from Academy of Biomedical Sciences Co., Ltd., Jinan, China. U87–MG/Luc was purchased from Fuheng Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Shanghai, China. D–Luciferin (≥98%) was purchased from Yuanye Bio–Technology Co., Ltd., Shanghai, China. MTT Assay kit was bought from Edison Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Yancheng, China.
