The Yiqihuoxuejiedu formula (Cat. Number 120603), composed of astragalus, salvia, honeysuckle, and other components, was produced by the Chinese Herbal Company of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (Beijing, China) and the final concentration of crude drug was 1.2 g/mL.
Rats with balloon injury were randomly divided into three groups: the model group, the Atorvastatin group, and the Yiqihuoxuejiedu group. The sham group served as a control. Rats in the Atorvastatin group were orally administered with 13.33 mg/kg/d of Atorvastatin calcium (Pfizer), while they were administered with 12 g/kg in the Yiqihuoxuejiedu group and 10 mL/kg/d distilled water in the sham and model groups. Both doses for the two groups were based on the typical daily clinical dosages for adults, corresponding with 10 times of clinical dosages. Rats were administered once a day and seven days later, perfused with 4% paraformaldehyde through the left ventricle to fix specimen and make paraffin sections.

All patients were asked to maintain their previous exercise and lifestyle during treatment. Both groups were given low-sugar and low-protein diet. According to the patient's blood glucose level and standard body weight, total daily calories intake was 104.6 kJ/kg, and daily protein intake was 0.6–0.8 g/kg. Metformin hydrochloride tablet (0.5–0.85 g) was taken with meals three times a day. Treatment with insulin was performed if necessary (NovoRapid, Copenhagen, Denmark). Atorvastatin calcium [Pfizer (China) Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.; Shanghai, China] was also used to reduce lipid with a dose of 0–40 mg/day. Benazepril hydrochloride was used to control blood pressure if necessary. Besides the treatments, patients in observation group were also asked to take baicalin at a dose of 800 mg, three times a day. Meanwhile, control group was given placebo. Treatment was performed for 6 months.

Atorvastatin Protects Against Isoflurane Anesthesia

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Aged C57BL/6 mice (20 months old) were ordered from the Capital Medical University experimental animal center and were housed in sterile cages under standard animal housing conditions (relative humidity: 55%–60%; temperature: 22 ± 1°C; 12:12 h light/dark cycle). The mice were divided into six groups (n = 24 mice per group):
control group (normal saline as placebo), atorvastatin group (20 mg/kg atorvastatin treatment), isoflurane group (1.5% isoflurane exposure for 6 h), 5 mg/kg atorvastatin + isoflurane group, 10 mg/kg atorvastatin + isoflurane group, and 20 mg/kg atorvastatin + isoflurane group.
The three doses (5, 10, or 20 mg/kg) of atorvastatin (Lipitor Atorvastatin calcium, Pfizer) were administered orally to the mice every day for 7 days. Twenty-four hours after the last treatment, the mice received 1.5% isoflurane anesthesia for 6 h with 21% oxygen. The temperature was maintained between 33 and 35°C. The mice administered with normal saline or 21% oxygen alone were normal controls; mice that received isoflurane alone were isoflurane control; mice receiving 20 mg/kg atorvastatin alone were atorvastatin control. Then, ten mice were randomly selected from each group, to received behavioral tests 1 day after anesthesia.

Here, 9–10-week-old male db/db mice were purchased from the Model Animal Research Center of Nanjing University (Nanjing, China) and maintained under a 12:12-h light–dark cycle. All the animal experiments were approved by the Animal Research Committee of Chengdu Medical College (Chengdu, China). The mice were randomly assigned to four groups and exposed to the following interventions: vehicle group (DM group, n = 8), mice treated with sterilized water; metformin group (MT group, n = 8), mice treated with 200 mg/kg/day of metformin; atorvastatin group (AVS group, n = 8), mice treated with 10 mg/kg/day of atorvastatin; and atorvastatin/metformin combination group (MT + AVS group, n = 8), mice treated with combination of 200 mg/kg/day of metformin and 10 mg/kg/day of atorvastatin. Metformin hydrochloride tablets were purchased from Bristol-Myers Squibb (New York, NY, USA), and atorvastatin calcium was purchased from Pfizer (New York, NY, USA). Both drugs were dissolved in sterilized water and administrated by gastric gavage (orally) once per day for 3 months.

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
