Fresh basidiomata of the fungi growing on angiosperm branches were collected from the Qujing, Puer, and Honghe of Yunnan Province, China. The samples were photographed in situ and fresh macroscopic details were recorded. Photographs were taken by a Jianeng 80D camera (Tokyo, Japan). All of the photos were focus stacked and merged using Helicon Focus Pro 7.7.5 software. Specimens were dried in an electric food dehydrator at 40 °C, then sealed and stored in an envelope bag and deposited in the herbarium of the Southwest Forestry University (SWFC), Kunming, Yunnan Province, China.

Collecting and Preserving Fungal Specimens

Fresh fruiting bodies of the fungi growing on fallen angiosperm branches were collected in 2019 from the Honghe and Wenshan of Yunnan Province, China. The samples were photographed in situ and macroscopic details were recorded. Field photographs were taken by a Jianeng 80D camera (Tokyo, Japan). All photographs were focus-stacked and merged using Helicon Focus Pro 7.7.5 software. Detailed Morphological Documentation of Insects

Legs and details of the male and female genitalia were drawn by means of an Abbe’s drawing apparatus on a compound microscope (Zeiss Jenaval) at magnification 130–500×. Wings were photographed on an Olympus BX51 compound microscope with an attached digital camera (Canon EOS 1200D). Whole adult (dry-mounted) specimens and heads were photographed by means of a Canon EOS 5D Mark III digital camera with a Nikon CFI Plan 10×/0.25NA 10.5mm WD objective attached to a Canon EF 70–200mm f/4L USM zoom lens. The specimen photographed by means of the latter equipment was repositioned upwards between each exposure using a Cognisys StackShot Macro Rail and the final photograph was compiled from multiple layers (~ 40) using Helicon Focus Pro 7.0.2. The final images were edited in Adobe Photoshop CS6. All morphological illustrations were prepared by the first author.

New Metapone ant species described

Types.Metaponequadridentata Eguchi, 1998. Three paratypes from East Malaysia (Borneo), Sabah, Poring, Kinabalu were examined. Two paratype workers (SKYC) and one paratype queen (MNHAH).

Focus-stacked images were produced using Helicon Focus Pro 7.0.2 (Helicon Soft Ltd., http://www.heliconsoft.com/), and improved with the retouching function of the same software. Colour balance and contrast were adjusted using GIMP 2.8 (The GIMP Development Team, http://www.gimp.org). Two paratype workers of M.quadridentata were imaged on a Dun Inc™ Passport II macrophotography imaging system, using a Canon MP-E 65 mm lens. Focus-stacked images of the two paratypes were produced using Zerene Stacker (Zerene Systems LLC, http://zerenesystems.com/cms/stacker). The final images were further adjusted, annotated, and scale bars added using Adobe Photoshop CS6. All specimens of the new species examined are deposited in the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum, under the Zoological Reference Collection (ZRC).
