Digital bp machine

An Omron brand digital BP machine (code: HEM-7201) was used to measure patient blood pressure following the standard processes by the Joint National Committee VII (Joint National Committee, 2003 ). Blood pressures were obtained twice. The values for systolic and diastolic blood pressures were averaged.

Anthropometry includes measurements of body weight, height, hip circumference (HC) and waist circumference (WC) were performed following the standard procedures described elsewhere^{28 (link)–37 (link)}. Briefly, the body weight was measured by digital weighing machines (Beurer 700, Germany) to the nearest 0.1 kg^{38 (link)}. The standing body height (stature) was measured to the nearest 0.1 cm using a measuring tape. BMI was calculated as the ratio of a person’s weight in kilograms (kg) divided by the height in meters squared (m²). The systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) blood pressures were recorded by a digital BP machine (Omron, Tokyo, Japan). A mean value of two consecutive blood pressure measurements was calculated for each subject and used for the analysis.

BP measurement was the primary outcome.
