(Shanghai, China). The assay kit for TBA (160831) was obtained from Nanjing Jiancheng Bioengineering Institute (Nanjing, China). Standard reference samples of glucose monohydrate and galactose monohydrate were obtained from Tianjin Bodi Chemical Co., Ltd. (Tianjin, China). Glutamic acid, leucine, isoleucine, taurocholic acid sodium, sodium glycocholate hydrate and tryptophan were obtained from Sangon Biotech (Shanghai, China). Venlafaxine hydrochloride (Kang Hong Pharmaceutical, Chengdu, China, no. 071104) was obtained from Huang He drugstore (Taiyuan, China).

Some studies have shown that moderate (100 mg/kg-bw) intake of tryptophan may be beneficial, but excessive (500 mg/kg-bw) intake of tryptophan can lead to the accumulation of canine indole metabolites, which can activate the AhR pathway and cause kidney injury. Therefore, tryptophan intake may not always the more the better (Hu et al., 2023 (link)).
