Anthropometric Measurements and Blood Pressure

We measured the neck circumference (NC) at the level of cricothyroid membrane, waist circumference (WC) at the midway level between the iliac crest and the lowest costal margin, and hip circumference (HC) at the widest extension of the buttocks. The waist–hip ratio was calculated as the WC divided by HC. We calculated the body mass index by dividing the weight in kilograms by the height in meters squared (kg/m2). The diastolic and systolic blood pressure were measured at least three times using an automated electronic equipment (Omron Model HEM-752 Fuzzy, Omron Company), and the average reading was used for analysis.

Standardized Survey on Lifestyle and Health

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
A team of well-versed researchers conducted a standardized survey to gather data, encompassing demographics, lifestyle, medical history, and medication usage (19 (link)). Anthropometric characteristics, such as weight, height, and blood pressure, were measured in accordance with established protocols. Body Mass Index (BMI) was computed as weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared (kg/m2). Blood pressure readings were obtained twice using an automated electronic device (HEM-752 FUZZY, Omron, China), and the mean of these measurements was selected (20 (link)).

Thyroid Nodule Prevalence Assessment

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Age, sex, medication information, education level, disease history, medication information, smoking status, and drinking habits were self-reported. The body mass index (BMI) of the subjects was calculated as weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared. An automated electronic device (HEM-752 FUZZY, Omron, China) was used to measure systolic (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP). Ultrasound was performed using B-mode US imaging (MX7, Mindray Shenzhen, P.R. China) with a 13 MHz linear array probe. A thyroid nodule was defined as present if the size of the nodule on ultrasound was found to be ≥2 mm by some highly trained technicians.

Anthropometric and Biochemical Measurements

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
The physical examination comprised blood pressure (BP) and anthropometric measurements, including height, weight, and BMI. BMI was calculated as weight (kg) divided by height (m)2. Well-trained nurses measured BP two times in the left arm of seated participants using an automated electronic device (OMRON model HEM-752 Fuzzy, Omron Company, Dalian, China) after 5-minute sitting. The average of the two readings was calculated to determine the reported BP. The venous blood samples were drawn after 12-hour overnight fasting for examining fasting plasma glucose (FPG), serum creatinine, triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). Fasting 1st morning void urine specimens were obtained for determination of urinary albumin and creatinine. Urine albumin was measured using an immunoturbidimetric assay and urine creatinine using a kinetic assay using the Jaffe creatinine method. Elevated UACR in the current study was defined as UACR ≥3 mg/mmoL [12 (link)]. Glomerular filtration was calculated using the modified Schwartz equation: estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) (mL/min/1.73 m2) = (0.413 × height in cm)/serum creatinine in mg/dL [13 (link), 14 (link)].

Comprehensive Cardiometabolic Profiling

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Anthropometric measurements, including body weight, height, and blood pressure (BP), were performed by trained study nurses according to standard protocols. BMI was estimated by dividing weight (kg) by height (m) squared. The BP measurement was performed on the non-dominant arm, using an automated electronic device (Omron model HEM-752 FUZZY; Omron Company, Dalian, China). The BP measurements were taken with participants in a seated position after 5 min of quiet rest.
On admission, venous blood samples were collected from each patient after at least 12-h fasting in the morning, and analyzed in the clinical chemistry department of Fuwai Hospital [17 (link)]. An automated biochemical analyzer (Hitachi 7150, Tokyo, Japan) was used to measure the concentrations of total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), TG, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), serum creatinine, and high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) with an enzymatic assay. Tosoh Automated Glycohemoglobin Analyzer (HLC-723G8, Tokyo, Japan) was used to estimate glycosylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c). The low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) was determined by the Friedman equation. The eGFR was calculated by the Chinese modified MDRD equation [18 (link)].

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
