Simultaneous MR-PET-EEG Acquisition Protocol

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
EEG data were recorded with a Brain Vision Recorder (Brain Products, Gilching, Germany) using a 32-channel MR compatible EEG system including an MR compatible amplifier and a synchronisation box. The EEG cap (BrainCap MR, EasyCap GmbH, Herrsching, Germany) consisted of 31 scalp electrodes distributed according to the 10–20 system and one additional electrode for recording the electrocardiogram (ECG). Data were recorded relative to the Fpz reference and a ground electrode that was located at AFz (10–5 electrode system). Data were sampled at 5000 Hz, with a bandpass of 0.016–250 Hz. Impedances at all recording electrodes were kept below 10 kΩ.
The simultaneous trimodal data acquisition approach is summarized in Fig. 1.

Trimodal set-up. The diagram displays the connections between the various components of the simultaneous MR-PET-EEG setup. The components inside the red dotted rectangular box are inside the RF-shielded MR room.

MRI-Compatible EEG Acquisition Protocol

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
EEG was recorded using an MR-compatible EEG cap (Braincap MR, Easycap, Herrsching, Germany) with 64 ring-type electrodes and two MR-compatible 32-channel amplifiers (Brainamp MR plus, Brain Products GmbH, Gilching, Germany). EEG caps included 62 scalp electrodes referenced to FCz. Two bipolar ECG recordings were taken from V2-V5 and V3-V6 using an MR-compatible 16-channel bipolar amplifier (Brainamp ExG MR, Brain Products GmbH, Gilching, Germany). Using high-chloride abrasive electrode paste (Abralyt 2000 HiCL; Easycap, Herrsching, Germany), electrode-skin impedance was reduced to < 5 KOhm. To reduce movement-related EEG artifacts, subjects' heads were immobilized in the head-coil by surrounding the subject’s head with foam cushions. EEG was digitized at 5000 samples per second with a 500-nV resolution. Data were analog filtered by a band-limiter low pass filter at 250 Hz and a high pass filter with a 10-sec time constant corresponding to a high pass frequency of 0.0159 Hz. Data were transferred via fiber optic cable to a personal computer where Brain Products Recorder Software, Version 1.x (Brain Products, Gilching, Germany) was synchronized to the scanner clock. EEG was monitored online with Brain Products RecView software using online artifact correction.

Simultaneous EEG-fMRI Acquisition in 3T MRI

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
All EEG data were recorded simultaneously with fMRI recordings in a Siemens 3T Trio MR scanner (Germany). EEG data were acquired using an MR-compatible EEG system (Brain Products, Gilching, Germany). The EEG cap (BrainCap MR, EasyCap GmbH, Breitbrunn, Germany) included 63 scalp electrodes distributed according to the 10–20 system and one additional ECG electrode placed on the participants’ back. EEG signals were acquired relative to an FCz reference, with the ground in correspondence of Iz (10-5 electrode system). The EEG data were sampled at 5000 Hz, with a band-pass filtering of 0.016–250 Hz. The impedance at each electrode was kept lower than 10 kΩ.

Multimodal Brain Imaging During Epilepsy

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
In this study, we assumed the presence of an “epileptic process” possibly reaching beyond epochs of interictal epileptic activity visible on scalp EEG. Accordingly, the EEG was not used for the detection of epileptiform EEG activity but to identify fMRI epochs of wakefulness in order to increase the sensitivity and specificity of our results (12 (link)).
EEG via a cap (modified Brain Cap MR, Easycap, Herrsching, Germany) was recorded continuously (sampling rate 5 kHz, low pass filter 1 kHz) during fMRI acquisition with an MRI-compatible EEG system (BrainAmp MR+ and Brain Vision Analyzer; Brain Products GmbH, Gilching, Germany) yielding two 20-min sessions consisting of 404 T2*-weighted single-shot gradient-echo echo-planar images (EPIs; echo time/repetition time, 30/3000 ms; flip angle, 90°; 43 2.5 mm interleaved slices; FOV, 24 cm × 24 cm; matrix 64 × 64) acquired continuously on a 3T Signa Excite HDX MRI scanner (General Electric, Milwaukee, WI, USA).

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
