Aluminum foils of 99.999% of purity and 0.5 mm of thickness were purchased from Goodfellow Ltd. (Cambridge, UK). Oxalic acid (H2C2O4), phosphoric acid (H3PO4), perchloric acid (HClO4), chromic acid (H2CrO7), copper chloride (CuCl2) ethanol (C2H5OH), acetone ((CH3)2CO), 2-(N-morpholino)ethanesulfonic acid, phosphate buffered saline (PBS), human serum albumin (HSA), streptavidin, (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES), sulfo-NHS-biotin, magnesium chloride (MgCl2) and thrombin were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO, USA). Double-deionized (DI) water Double-deionized (DI) water in 18.6 MU, PURELAB Option-Q system purchased from ELGA LabWater (Lane End, United Kindom) was used for all solutions.

Quantitative Analysis of KAU and Honokiol

The reference standard (RS) of KAU (purity > 98.6%) and honokiol used as an internal standard (IS) (Figure 1) were obtained from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do, Korea). Methanol, acetonitrile, and methyl-tert-butyl ether were purchased from J.T. Baker (Phillipsburg, NJ, USA). Ammonium acetate, formic acid, and trifluoroacetic acid were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO, USA). HPLC grade water (18.2 MΩ) was obtained using an Elga Purelab option-Q system (Elga Labwater, Marlow, UK). It was used throughout this study. Other chemicals were of HPLC grade or the highest quality available.

Comprehensive Analytical Procedure for Bioactive Compounds

All chemicals used for the extraction and analysis of FAs, VitE, and phenolic compounds were of the HPLC-grade or at least ACS analytical grade. Acetonitrile, ethanol, methanol (MeOH), and iso-octane were obtained from Thermo Fisher Scientific (Waltham, MA, USA). Deionized water was generated using the PURELAB Option-Q System (ELGA Lab Water, High Wycombe, UK). Potassium hydroxide, benzene, formic acid, and heptane were purchased from Junsei (Tokyo, Japan). Hexane was purchased from Kanto Chemical Co., Inc. (Tokyo, Japan). Dichloromethane, 2,2-dimethoxypropane, and dimethyl sulfoxide were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich Corp (St. Louis, MO, USA). Sulfuric acid, sodium sulfate anhydrous, and 0.1 N hydrochloric acid were purchased from Daejung Chemical and Materials Co., Ltd. (Gyeonggi-Do, Korea). Ascorbic acid was obtained from SANCHUN Chemical Co., Ltd. (Gyeonggi-Do, Korea). The 37 fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) standard mixture, pentadecanoic acid (C15:0, internal standard), VitE (4 tocopherols and 4 tocotrienols), and phenolic standards (STDs) were phurchased from Sigma-Aldrich Co. We obtained 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) from Alfa Aesar (Ward Hill, MA, USA).

Comprehensive Analysis of Phytochemicals

All solvents used for the extraction and analysis of PC were of HPLC grade. The MeOH (methanol) and acetonitrile were purchased from Fisher Scientific Korea (Seoul, Korea). The 0.1 N hydrochloric acid (HCl) standard solution was purchased from Daejung Chemicals & Metals (Gyeonggi-do, Korea). The formic acid was purchased from Junsei Chemical (Tokyo, Japan). The deionized water was obtained from PURELAB Option-Q System (ELGA Lab Water, UK). The 56 standards of selected PC and free amino acids were obtained as follows. The phenolic acid standards, its derivative standards, amino acid standards, flavonoid standards and dimethyl sulfoxide were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO, USA). The anthocyanin standards were purchased from Extrasynthese (Genay, France). The isoflavone standards were purchased from three different companies; Wako Pure Chemical Industries (Osaka, Japan), LC Laboratories (Woburn, MA, USA) and Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO, USA). The stilbenoid standards were purchased from two different companies; Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO, USA) and Cayman Chemical (Ann Arbor, MI, USA).

Analytical Grade Solvents Protocol
