Activated charcoal powder

Manufactured by Merck Group
Sourced in United States, Germany

Activated charcoal powder is a fine, black powder produced by heating carbon-rich materials, such as wood or coal, in the absence of oxygen. The porous structure of activated charcoal gives it a large surface area, which allows it to effectively adsorb a variety of substances, including gases, liquids, and dissolved organic compounds.

FBS Charcoal Stripping Protocol

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
To remove residual VitD in the culture medium, fetal bovine serum (FBS, Thermo Scientific) was subjected to stripping according to literature 25 (link). Briefly, FBS was incubated with 2.5% activated charcoal powder (Sigma-Aldrich) and incubate at 4 °C overnight with gentle shaking. FBS was then centrifuged at 2000g at 4 °C for 15 min. Supernatant (C-FBS) was collected, filtered through a 0.22μm syringe filter and stored at -20 °C.

Isopropyl alcohol was purchased from Honeywell (Hanover, Germany). Petroleum solvent, Nefras grade C2-80/120, was purchased from “Latvijas ķīmija” (Riga, Latvia). Activated charcoal powder, chloroform-d, Kraft lignin, and beechwood xylan were purchased from Merck KGaA (Darmstadt, Germany). Nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) was produced from old filter paper waste according to the method previously reported by the authors [27 (link)]. NFC sizes ranged from 40 to 120 nm in diameter, and fiber lengths from around 500 to 2000 nm. Pine needles (Pinus sylvestris, L.) were gathered locally in Latvia through a forestry company.

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
