Hematological and Biochemical Analysis of Pigs

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
On the 42nd day of the experiment, the feeders of the pigs were emptied four hours before blood sampling. Samples (4 mL) of blood were collected from the jugular veins of six animals per group and deposited into vacutainer tubes containing ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid as an anticoagulant agent. The hematological parameters (white blood cells, lymphocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, red blood cells, hematocrit, hemoglobin, and thrombomodulin), were analyzed with an “MS4 automated analyzer” (Melet Schloesing Lab, Osny, France) [38 (link)]. Additionally, some serum biochemical parameters (albumin, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, cholesterol, creatine kinase, glucose, total bilirubin, and triglycerides) were determined with an “IDEXX VETTEST 8008 analyzer” (IDEXX LAB, Westbrook, ME, USA) [39 (link)].

Blood Plasma Biochemical Analysis

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Blood was drawn from the vena caudalis and samples stabilized with 40 IU sodium heparin per 1 mL. Blood was separated by centrifugation at 12 000 ×g for 10 min at 4°C, and plasma samples were held at −80°C until analysis. The following biochemical indices were evaluated: aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and creatine kinase (CK). For the biochemical analysis of plasma, the VETTEST 8008 analyzer (IDEXX Laboratories Inc., USA) was used.

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
A VETTEST 8008 analyzer (IDEXX Laboratories Inc., USA) was used according to the manufacturer's instructions to determine biochemical indices, including glucose (GLU), total proteins (TP), ammonia (NH 3 ), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), albumin (ALB), creatine (CREA), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), creatine kinase (CK), lactate (LACT), phosphorous (PHOS), magnesium (Mg), triglyceride (Trig), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and calcium (Ca 2+ ).

Serum Biochemical Profiling and Oxidative Stress Assessment

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Serum biochemical indices including total protein (TP), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (CHO), glucose (GLU), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were measured using kits with a VET-TEST 8008 analyzer (IDEXX Laboratories Inc., Maine, USA). Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was determined using a SOD Assay Kit (Sigma, 19160) . Commercial assay kits were used for measurement of catalase (CAT) activity (ThermoFisher Scienti c, CA, USA) and malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration (Sigma-Aldrich, Missouri, USA). A turbidimetric method was used for determination of lysozyme activity according to Swain et al. [21] . MPO activity was determined as described by Quade and Roth [22] . Serum antiprotease activity was quanti ed based on Ellis [23] with some modi cations [24] .

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
