Span80

Manufactured by Tianjin Guangfu
Sourced in China

Span80 is a non-ionic surfactant commonly used as an emulsifier and stabilizer in various laboratory applications. It is a polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate with a molecular formula of C64H124O26. Span80 is soluble in organic solvents and has the ability to lower the surface tension of liquids, making it useful for emulsification, dispersion, and stabilization processes in the laboratory setting.

The following materials were used: perilla oil, linseed oil (Shengji Industrial Co., Ltd., Jilin City, Jilin Province); Cremophor RH40 (Dalian Meilun Biotechnology Co., Ltd); Span80 (Tianjin Guangfu Fine Chemical Research Institute); H&E staining kit (Boster Inc, Beijing, China); and neutral-buffered formalin (Beijing Chemical Industry, Beijing, China). Fasting plasma total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) levels were determined using kits from Biosino (Beijing, China). An Elisa kit was obtained from Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc (US).
Ten-week-old Kunming male mice (n = 30) were purchased from the Laboratory Animal Center of Jilin University (Jilin, China). The mice were provided standard rodent chow and water and housed in cages (5 mice per cage) that were placed in an SPF animal facility with the laboratory maintained at a temperature of 23 °C and 40% humidity with a 12 : 12 h light : dark cycle. All animal welfare and experimental procedures were performed strictly according to the National Institutes of Health Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (NIH publications no. 8023, revised 1978). Moreover, the procedures were approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of Jilin University under approved protocol number SY201901004.

The materials included acrylamide (AM, Shanghai Macklin Biochemical Co. LTD, China, 99%), sorbitan monooleate (Span80, Tianjin Guangfu Fine Chemical Research Institute, China, AR), 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidinon (NVP, Tokyo Chemical Industry Limited Company, 99%), 2-acrylamide-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (AMPS, Shanghai Macklin Biochemical Co. LTD, 98.0%), N,N-methylene bis acrylamide (MBA, Mclean, AR), potassium persulfate (KPS, Tianjin Fuchen Chemicals, AR), methylthionine chloride (Shanghai Macklin Biochemical Co. LTD, 90.0%), partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM, hydrolysis degree about 25.2%), and zirconium acetate (Shanghai Macklin Biochemical Co. LTD, Zr 15–16%). All of the above materials were used without any further purification. Deionized water was filtrated through microporous cellulose membranes with a pore size of 0.22 μm. Nuclear pore membranes with 0.4 μm pores and a thickness of 10 μm were provided by the China Institute of Atomic Energy.

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
