Hyaluronic acid sodium salt 1600 kDa (HA) was purchased from Farmalabor (Barletta, Italy), stearylamine (ST), cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), ethyl acetate (EA), propylene glycol, benzyl alcohol, Pluronic^®F68 (PL F68), polyvinyl alcohol 9000 (PVA 9000), and Kollidon^®25 (PVP) were from Merck (Darmstadt, Germany), Epikuron^®200 (phosphatidylcholine 92%) was from Cargill (Minneapolis, MN, USA), doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOXO) was purchased from APAC Pharmaceutical (Columbia, MD, USA), Cremophor^®RH60 (PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil) from BASF (Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Germany), taurocholic acid sodium salt (NaTC) and glycocholic acid sodium salt (NaGC) were from ICN Biomedicals (Aurora, OH, USA), and trilaurin and tristearin from Alfa-Aesar (Ward Hill, MA, USA). Deionized water was obtained by a MilliQ water purification system (Millipore, Bedford, MA, USA). Unless specified otherwise, all reagents were purchased from Merck.

Trilaurin (TL), ethyl acetate (EA), benzyl alcohol (BenzOH), butyl lactate (BL), sodium taurocholate (NaTC), Pluronic^® F68, 1,2 propanediol, CURC, cholesterol, chitosan and Sepharose^® CL 4B, doxorubicin were purchased from Sigma Chemicals Co. (St. Louis, MO, USA). Epikuron^®200 (lecithin-phosphatydilcoline 92%) was from Cargill (Minneapolis, MN, USA), Cremophor^®RH 60 (PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil) from BASF (Ludwigshafen, Germany). The plastic ware for cell cultures was obtained from Falcon (Becton Dickinson, Franklin Lakes, NJ, USA). The electrophoresis reagents were from Bio-Rad Laboratories (Hercules, CA, USA). The protein content of cell lysates was assessed with the BCA kit from Sigma Chemicals Co. Deionized water was obtained by a MilliQ system (Millipore, St. Louis, MO, USA). Unless specified otherwise, all reagents were purchased from Sigma Chemicals Co.

Trilaurin (TL), tristearin, myristic acid, glyceryl monostearate, ethyl acetate (EA), benzyl alcohol (BenzOH), triacetin (TA), butyl lactate (BL), polysorbate (20, 40, 80), sodium taurodeoxycholate (Na TdC), sodium taurocholate (Na TC), sodium glycocholate (Na GC), sodium cholate (Na C), Pluronic^® F68, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) 9000, PVA 14000, 1,2 propanediol, curcumin and Sepharose^® CL 4B were purchased from Sigma (Dorset, UK). Epikuron^®200 was purchased from ACEF (Fiorenzuola d’Arda, Italy), benzyl alcohol, propylene glycol, stearoyl chloride, cholesterol, butyl lactate from Fluka (Buchs, Switzerland), Fluorescein isothiocyanate, CS low viscosity, Sepharose^®CL 4B, CURC, potassium chloride, Poly(ethylene glycol) 300, 2,3-bis[2-methoxy-4-nitro-5-sulphophenyl]-2H-tetrazolium-5-carboxanilide, crystal violet solution from Sigma (Dorset, UK), Cremophor^®RH60 from BASF (Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Germany), Taurocholic acid sodium salt from ICN Biomedicals (Solon, OH, USA), potassium phosphate monobasic, potassium phosphate dibasic from Merck (Darmstadt, Germany), methanol, trimethylamine, sodium chloride, acetic acid and ethanol from Carlo Erba (Val De Reuil, France). Deionized water was obtained by a MilliQ system (Millipore, Bedford, MO, USA).

Propylene glycol was purchased from ACEF (Fiorenzuola d′Arda, Italy); benzyl alcohol, Sepharose^®CL 4B, ethyl acetate, sodium sulfate, sodium dodecyl sulfate, phosphate buffer saline (PBS) tablets, trichloroacetic acid, M199 medium, heparin, MTT, VEGF-α, crystal violet, fetal calf serum, and antibiotics for cell cultures and sample buffer Laemmli were from Sigma-Aldrich (Dorset, UK); Epikuron^®200 was from Cargill (Minneapolis, MN, USA); Cremophor^®RH60 was from BASF (Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Germany); taurocholic acid sodium salt was from ICN Biomedicals (Aurora, OH, USA); potassium phosphate monobasic, potassium phosphate dibasic, and dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate (AOT) were from Merck (Darmstadt, Germany), agar and trilaurin were from Alfa-Aesar (Ward Hill, MA, USA); hyaluronic acid sodium salt 1600 kDa (HA) was from Farmalabor (Barletta, Italy); Avastin^® Roche (Basilea, Switzerland) was gently purchased from Molinette Central Hospital (Turin, Italy); sodium chloride (NaCl) and ethanol were from Carlo Erba (Val De Reuil, France). The retinal pigment epithelial ARPE-19 cell line (ATCC-CRL-2302) and the DMEM:F12 medium were purchased from ATCC^® (Manassas, VA, USA).

Resveratrol, castor oil, and polyethylene glycol (PEG) 1500 were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (Germany).
