Japan). 1,2-Dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine
(DOPC) and 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1′-rac-glycerol) (sodium salt) (DOPG) were purchased from Avanti
Polar Lipids Inc. (Alabaster, AL, USA). Alexa Fluor 546 carboxylic
acid, succinimidyl ester, Oregon Green BAPTA-5N, and hexapotassium
salt were purchased from Thermo Fisher Scientific (Waltham, MA, USA).
Calcein was purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO, USA). 5-Carboxyfluorescein
was purchased from Tokyo Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan).

Free Radical Scavenging Assay Protocol

(Tokyo, Japan). 5,5-Dimethyl-1-pyrroline-N-oxide (DMPO) was purchased from Labotec (Tokyo, Japan), xanthine oxidase (XOD) from bovine milk was from Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO), hypoxanthine (HX) and iron(II) sulfate heptahydrate were from FUJIFILM Wako Pure Chemical Co. (Osaka, Japan), heparin sodium salt solution was from Mochida Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan), ethylenediamine-N,N,N’,N’-tetraacetic acid, disodium salt, dihydrate (EDTA) and diethylenetriamine-N,N,N’,N’’,N’’-pentaacetic acid (DTPA) were from Dojindo (Kumamoto, Japan). Pure water was freshly prepared with a Millipore Milli-Q Labo (Bedford, MA). All other reagents were of the highest purity commercially available.

Glucose Oxidase Characterization Protocol

Glucose oxidase (GOx) from Aspergillus niger was purchased from Toyobo (Tokyo, Japan). The concentration of GOx was determined spectrophotometrically using the absorption coefficient of 18240 M -1 cm -1 at 460 nm. 24 PHMB and catalase were purchased from Nacalai Tesque (Kyoto, Japan). Ethylenediamine-N,N,N,′N′,-tetraacetic acid, disodium salt, dehydrate (EDTA), 2-morpholinoethanesulfonic acid (MES), 3-morpholinopropanesulfonic acid (MOPS) and N-tris(hydroxymethyl)methyl-3-aminopropanesulfonic acid (TAPS) were purchased from Dojindo Laboratories (Mashiki, Japan). Poloxamer 407 was purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO). They were used without further purification. Other chemicals were of reagent grade and were used as received.
