Taiwanese Biobank DNAm Analysis

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Since October 2012, the TWB has recruited 173,807 community-based volunteers living in Taiwan. According to Taiwan’s male–female proportion and the population size in each county, 2474 individuals were randomly selected from all TWB participants to undergo DNAm analysis. In this study, we analyzed the DNAm data of these 2474 TWB participants. Written informed consent and blood and urine samples were provided by each individual when participating in the study. The TWB collected lifestyle factors such as smoking status through a face-to-face interview with health care professionals. Serum glucose and HbA1c were measured with a Hitachi LST008 analyzer (Hitachi High-Technologies, Tokyo, Japan) and a Trinity Biotech Premier Hb9210 analyzer (Bray, Ireland/Kansas City, MO) after a fast of at least 6 h. FEV1 and FCV were measured through pulmonary function test machines. FVC is the amount of air forcibly exhaled from the lungs after taking the deepest breath, and FEV1 is the volume of air exhaled in the first second [46 (link)].

Biochemical Markers in BPPV

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Serum levels of UA, ALB, CRE, and total BIL (TBIL) were measured using a Hitachi LST008 analyzer (Hitachi High-Technologies Corporation, Tokyo, Japan) after 8–10 h of fasting during the first 48 h after the onset of BPPV. The concentrations of alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), fasting blood-glucose (FBG), total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) were measured by the same method.

Defining Diabetes and Hypertension Criteria

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
In our study, diabetes was defined by (1) fasting blood glucose levels above 126 mg/dl, (2) hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels of at least 6.5% [58 (link)], and (3) self-report of a previous clinical diagnosis with diabetes. We defined hypertension using the following criteria: (1) systolic blood pressure 140 mmHg; (2) diastolic blood pressure 90 mmHg) [59 (link)] or (3) self-report of prior hypertension diagnosis. The Hitachi LST008 analyzer was used to determine fasting blood glucose, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and triglycerides. BMI was calculated using the standard formula: weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared (kg/m2). Other variables were self-reported and were defined as follows: (1) cigarette smoking: habitual smoking for over 6 months; (2) alcohol drinking: habitual alcohol consumption of over 150 ml per week for the past 6 months; (3) regular exercise: any physical activity lasting over 30 min a day and taken at least three times a week; (4) tea drinking: habitual daily consumption of tea; (5) coffee drinking: consumption of coffee at least three times a week; (6) vegetarian: maintained a vegetarian diet for the past 6 months.

Vertigo Diagnostic Blood Markers

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
All patients presented to the emergency room with fasting blood collection within 48 h of vertigo. Complete blood counts were determined using the ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid blood sample method on a Toshiba analyzer (Hitachi High Technologies Corporation, Tokyo, Japan). RDW-CV value was calculated as follows: RDW – CV = [red blood cell (RBC) volume standard deviation/average RBC volume] ×100 (13 (link)). The normal reference range for RDW in this study was between 11 and 14%. This study reported RDW-CV and denoted RDW.
Meanwhile, serum C-reactive protein (CRP), homocysteine (HCY), albumin (ALB), total bilirubin (TB) levels, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), fasting blood glucose (FBG), uric acid (UA), and creatinine (CRE) were measured by a Hitachi LST008 Analyzer (Hitachi High-Tech, Tokyo, Japan). The values of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL) were measured with the same analyzer. In addition, fibrinogen (FIB) was measured using an automated coagulation analyzer (ACL-TOP-700, Wolfen, Spain).

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
