Characterization of Waste Hair Biomass

Waste Human Hair was collected from local hair salons in Mumbai and was used as received without any chemical purification. Reagent grade potassium hydroxide, Sodium hydroxide, ortho-phosphoric acid and HPLC grade Sodium acetate, acetonitrile, methanol, and phenyl isothiocyanate were purchased from SD Fine Chemicals Ltd. Mumbai. Ultra-pure D.I. water was prepared using Millipore apparatus. All reagents were used as received without further purification. All experiments were performed at room temperature (30 °C).

Enzymatic Esterification Protocol

The immobilized lipase B from C. antarctica (Novozym 435 with specific activity of 10,000 PLU/g, Particle size 0.3–0.9 mm, Bulk density – 0.43 g/cm3) was a brought from Novo Nordisk Ltd. (Bagsvaerd, Denmark). The same initial batch of enzyme (10 g) was used throughout the research work. Myristic acid, isopropyl alcohol (with 0.2% water), Molecular sieves 4 Å, Potassium hydroxide was obtained from SD Fine Chemicals (Mumbai, India). Standard sample of isopropyl myristate was a kind gift from Anshul Life Sciences (Mumbai, India). All the other chemicals and reagents were of analytical grade.

Enzymatic Esterification of Stearic Acid

The potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, ethanol, and phenolphthalein indicator were procured from S. D. Fine chemicals, Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, India.

Ofloxacin Transdermal Formulation Development

Ofl was received as research sample from Elder Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Navi Mumbai, India). MAA, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) and N,N'-methylene bis acrylamide (MBA) were purchased from Central Drug House (Mumbai, India). Divinyl benzene (DVB) supplied by Merck (Germany) was used as received. XG, SCMC, and benzoyl peroxide (BP) were purchased from Heny Fine Chemicals (Vadodara, India). Potassium dihydrogen orthophosphate, sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide and other chemicals were acquired from S.D Fine Chemicals (Mumbai, India). Cellulose acetate dialysis tube (cut-off molecular mass of 12000) and monochloroacetic acid were procured from Sigma Aldrich (USA). All other reagents used in this study were of HPLC grade and used without further purification. Millipore water was prepared by Milli-Q plus system (Millipore Corporation Breford, USA) and used for every experiment.
