Potassium persulfate were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich, Inc. (St. Louis, MO, USA). Also, 2,2-azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt (ABTS) and 2,2diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) were obtained from Fluka Chemicals (Buchs, Switzerland) and Aldrich Chemical Company (Steinheim, Germany) respectively. Tryptic soy agar (TSA), phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), and TSB (tryptic soy broth) were procured from Oxoid (Hampshire, England). Metal salts for sensing and selectivity tests include: HgCl2 from VWR chemicals BDH, FeSO4.7H2O from Merck, FeCl3.6H2O, MgCl2.6H2O and NiCl2.6H2O were procured from Loba Chemie, ZnSO4.7H2O, Al(NO3)3.9H2O, CdCl2.2.5H2O, Ca(NO3)2.4H2O, CuSO4.5H2O, CoCl2.6H2O, were all from UNIVAR APS FineChem, while KNO3 and Pb(NO3)2 were procured from ANAPURE.

Konjac Glucomannan Characterization and Metal Interactions

Konjac glucomanan (KgM), with 95.8% purity, was from TCS-Mart, Thailand. (0.25% w/v KgM, 23.0  C had viscosity of 218.0 cP, Mwt was of 250 kDa). AgNO3 (analytical grade), Cr (NO3)3, HgCl2 were from Sigma Aldrich, other metal salts include KNO3, NaNO3, ZnSO4.7H20, Ca (NO3)2.4H2O, CoCl2.6H2O, CdCl2.2.5H2O, CuSO4.5H2O and Al (NO3)2.9H2O from APS Ajax Finechem, MnCl2.4H2O from QReC, Pb (NO3)2 was from Spectrum Chemical, Fe2SO4.7H2O from Merck, while FeCl3.6H2O, MgCl2.6H2O and NiCl2.8H2O were from LOBA CHEMIE. The listed chemicals were used for the selectivity and interference studies. All reagents were prepared using milli-Q water from Millipore water purifier system.
