The mouse monoclonal pan-isoform specific TGF-β IgG antibody, 1D11^{60 (link)}, was purchased (BioXCell), as were the inhibitors SB431542 (Tocris Bioscience) and ITD-1 (Tocris Bioscience). The mouse IgG1 myeloma MOPC 31 C from ATCC (ECACC-90110707) was used as an isotype control. Smad2/3 antibody (Cell Signaling Technology) and phosphoSmad2 antibody (Cell Signaling Technology) was used as the primary antibody for Western blots, followed by Goat anti rabbit IgG-HRP secondary (BioRad) according to manufacturer’s protocols. Recombinant Hp-TGM was detected by Western blot using an anti penta-His-HRP conjugate (Qiagen). An uncropped image of the Western blot shown in Fig. 3d is presented in Supplementary Fig. 9.
