B6; FVB-Tg(Cspg4-Cre)1Akik/J (NG2-Cre), B6.129-Leprtm2(Cre)Rck/J(Lepr-Cre), B6.CgGt(ROSA)26Sortm14.CAG-tdTomato/Hze/J (iTdTomato), B6.129(Cg)-Gt(ROSA)26Sortm4(ACTB-tdTomato,-EGFP)Luo/J (Rosa26mTmG), B6.Cg-Tg(Tek-Cre)12Flv/J (Tie2-Cre), C57BL/6-Tg(UBC-GFP)30Scha/J (UBC-GFP), C57BL/6-Gt(ROSA)26Sortm1 (HBEGF)Awai/J(iDTR), C57BL/6-CD45.1/2 congenic strains (all from Jackson laboratory), Nestin-GFP mice (Mignone et al., 2004 (link)), Vav1-iCre (de Boer et al., 2003 (link)), Epor-iCre (Heinrich et al., 2004 (link)) and Osx-CreER^T2 mice (Maes et al., 2010 (link)) were bred in our facilities. Csf1r-iCre mice (Deng et al., 2010 (link)) were provided by Dr. Jeffrey W. Pollard (Albert Einstein College of Medicine). Berkeley sickle cell mice (Tg[Hu-miniLCRα1^Gγ^Aγδβ^S]Hba^−/− Hbb^−/−), referred to as SCD mice, and control hemizygous mice (Tg[Hu-miniLCRα1^Gγ^Aγδβ^S]^Hba−/− Hbb^+/−), referred to as SA mice, were at least 18 weeks old and have been used and previously described (Paszty et al., 1997 (link)). All mice were maintained on the C57BL/6 background. Unless indicated otherwise, 9–13 week-old male and female mice were used. All mice were housed in pathogen-free conditions and fed with autoclaved food, and all experimental procedures were approved by the Animal Care and Use Committees of Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
