Methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) with  a number average molecular weight of 550 (MPEG550), ethanolamine, sodium hydride, silver sulfate, sodium diethyldithiocarbamate, phosphonitrilic chloride trimer and aluminium chloride were procured from Sigma-Aldrich. Anhydrous tetrahydrofuran was procured from Merck. Metronidazole (CAS: 443-48-1; molecular weight: 171.16 g/mol) was purchased from Alfa Aesar (Kandel, Germany). Silver nitrate (CAS: 7761-88-8; molecular weight: 169.87 g/mol), silver sulfate (CAS: 10294-26-5; molecular weight: 311.79 g/mol) and cisplatin (CAS: 15663-27-1; molecular weight: 300.05 g/mol) were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (Poznań, Poland). Triton X-100, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), fetal bovine serum (FBS), bovine calf serum (BCS), neutral red dye (NR), Coomassie brilliant blue R-250 dye, 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT), trypsin-EDTA and an antibiotic solution (10,000 U/mL of penicillin, 10 mg/mL of streptomycin) were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (Poznań, Poland). All other chemicals were purchased from commercial suppliers and were of the highest available purity.

Synthesis of Metal Nanostructures

All chemicals were used as received without any further purification. Copper(II) nitrate hydrate, silver nitrate, copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate, silver sulfate, potassium hydroxide (>85%), formaldehyde solution (37 wt% in H2O), paraformaldehyde, formic acid (>99%), methanol (>99.9%), tert-butanol (anhydrous), hydrochloric acid (ACS reagent, 37%), sodium citrate were purchased from Sigma Aldrich. Ammonium chloride and nickel(II) chloride hexahydrate were purchased from Alfa Aesar. Copper foam and nickel foam with a purity >99.99% were purchased from MTI. Deionized water (18 MΩ cm) from a Barnstead E-Pure system was used in all experiments.

Fabrication of Cellulose-based Composite

Next, sodium hypochlorite (2.4%) was purchased from Clorox (Oakland, CA, USA). Titanium (IV) isopropoxide (97%) was obtained from Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO, USA). Moreover, ethanol (95%) and Congo red (40%) were bought from R&M Chemicals (Selangor, Malaysia). All received chemicals were applied without extra purification. OPEFBs were collected from a palm mill located at Selangor, Malaysia. Lastly, distilled water was utilized throughout this research study.

Photodegradation of Penicillin G in Aqueous Solution

Coagulation Using Sodium Ferrate
