All values are presented as the mean ± standard error of the mean. Difference between two experimental groups was analyzed using independent t-test in SPSS statistic software version 18.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). Difference is considered statistically significant at P < 0.05.

SPSS Statistic software, version 18.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, USA), was used for the statistical treatment of the data. Normality and homogeneity of variance were tested by Shapiro-Wilk and Levene's tests, respectively. Analysis of variance (one-way ANOVA) or ANOVA Welch was carried out to evaluate if there were significant differences (p < 0.05) between samples. Additionally, significant post hoc analyses were performed (Tukey HSD test if variances in the different groups were identical or Games-Howell test if they were not). The correlations between variables were determined by Pearson correlation coefficient.
A principal component analysis (PCA) was also performed to total reducing capacity, hydrolyzable tannins, flavonoids, vitamin C, anthocyanin, and EC 50 values of DPPH and reducing power assays of the nine pomegranate cultivars. The PCA score plot was used to differentiate them.

In addition, significant post hoc analyses were performed (Tukey HSD test if variances in the different groups were identical or Games-Howell test if they were not). All analyses were performed in triplicate.
