Phaeodactylum tricornutum Characterization Protocol

The diatoms Phaeodactylum tricornutum were obtained from an algal culture facility at NJIT, USA. Zirconyl oxychloride-octahydrate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate, disodium hydrogen phosphate, potassium hexacyanoferrate (III) trihydrate, potassium hexacyanoferrate (II) and sulphuric acid were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich and were of analytical grade. The MP standard was procured from Sigma-Aldrich. All these solutions were made in milli-q water.

Cesium Adsorption on Iron-based Nanocomposites

A standard cesium solution (1000 ppm) was purchased from Kanto Chemical Co. Inc. (Tokyo, Japan). All chemicals used in this study were of analytical reagent grade. Deionized (DI) water was used in this study. Additionally, 137Cs solution was provided from the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI), Daejeon, Korea.

Germany), and phosphate buffer saline (PBS) pH7.4. All of the chemicals
were of the highest purity available and were used as purchased.

Activated Carbon Preparation from Sawdust

The MP standard was purchased from Sigma-Aldrich. All the solutions were prepared in Milli-Q water (resistivity = 18.2 MΩ cm at 25 °C).
