from commercial suppliers and used without further purification. 3-(3,4-Dihydroxyphenyl)-l-alanine (l-dopa, LD), 3-hydroxytyramine hydrochloride
(dopamine, DA), l-norepinephrine bitartrate (NE), and l-epinephrine (EP) were purchased from Tokyo Kasei Industry
(Japan). For the synthesis of the phenylboronic acid–LD derivative,
3-aminophenylboronic acid monohydrate (NH2-PBA, Sigma-Aldrich)
and 4-(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-4-methylmorpholinium chloride
(DMT-MM, Wako Pure Chemical, Japan) were used. The n-channel metal-oxide
semiconductor FET (MOSFET, 2N7002) was purchased from NXP Semiconductors.
Ultrapure water (Ul-pure, 18.2 MΩ cm of purity, Komatsu Electronics
Co., Ltd.) was used in all the experiments.

Synthesis and Analysis of Amino Acid Derivatives

DL-GA (racemate) was purchased from Tokyo Chemical Industry (Tokyo, Japan). D-GA was also purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO). DMT-MM was obtained from Wako Pure Chemical Industries (Osaka, Japan). Acetonitrile (CH3CN), methanol (CH3OH), pyridine, triethylamine (TEA), and LC-MS grade of formic acid (FA) were purchased from Kanto Chemicals (Tokyo, Japan). Pooled human sera were obtained from Nissui Pharmaceutical (Tokyo, Japan). Water (H2O) was purified using the PURELAB flex 3 ultrapure water purification system (ELGA LabWater, High Wycombe, UK). Each 10 mmol/L stock solution of D-and DL-DA was prepared with H2O and sequentially diluted with CH3CN just before use. Synthesis of DMT-(S)-A was performed according to our previous method. 16
