5(6)-carboxyfluorescein (CF) and CL-2B Sepharose were from Sigma (St. Louis, MO). 6-lauroyl-2-dimethylamino naphthalene (Laurdan) was from Molecular Probes (Invitrogen, Eugene, OR). 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine (POPE), 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-[phospho-rac-(1-glycerol)] (POPG), 1’,3’-bis[1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho]-glycerol (Cardiolipin, TOCL), 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine-N-(7-nitro-2–1,3-benzoxadiazol-4-yl) (DPPE-NBD), and 1-lauroyl-2-(1-pyrenebutanoyl)-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (Pyr-PC) were from Avanti Polar Lipids (Alabaster, AL). Peptides (horine: WWWLRRRW and verine-L: RRRWWWWL) were chemically synthesized and purified > 95% (Genemed Synthesis, TX). Some calculated properties of these peptides are given in Table S1. All reagents were used as received.
